I wanted to ask about the wood grain styling on coke machines, when did manufacturers start using it? Most of the ones I've seen myself were 70's models, but I'm hearing it was used earlier, so I thought I'd ask.

Period style like shag carpeting and leisure suits. Hard to believe it used to look "good" now. Screams 70's to me although I know it was used earlier.

The wood grain really doesn't look too bad if there is enough of a Coca-Cola marquee to balance it a bit. It is very distinctive from the red painted early late 50's/early 60's style square tops.

Were coke machines ever made with the wood grain combined with the mostly earlier "inverted" (red-on-white) Coca Cola marquees?

My Vendo 63 has woodgrain. I put a stylestar sign on it and it looks pretty sharp.

        Good point Roadman.  Simulated wood grain was applied to cars, Coke machines, and juke boxes primarily in the 70"s?

Wood grain textures show up on car interiors through the late 90's, and occasionally beyond. Though it's likely as much real wood as it is on a coke machine.

Still plenty of cars that feature wood accents.

Wood grain is still popular with European and Luxury makes I think.

I've noticed Cavalier USS machines will sometimes have the "narrow window" vend door common to the wood-grain coke machine era, but the machine front will be painted red and black like the later ones. Are those machines repainted, or did Cavalier still use the earlier door style on some of the later machines?

      Are you sure? The USS by design must have the wider door because of the extra delivery shelf on the left.
