Title: Removing Glass from Vendo 110 Bottle Door Post by: SIGNGUY on June 03, 2013, 03:44:52 pm Ok, I know it sounds easy, but if you've ever worked on a Vendo 110 it's a different set up. This is the first 110 I've restored and I've got all the screws out but can't get the bottle glass that is framed in wood to come out? any tips or tricks.
I'll try to post some photos tonight, but figure any of you who have done 110's know the trick? Thanks John Title: Re: Removing Glass from Vendo 110 Bottle Door Post by: collecture on June 03, 2013, 03:50:05 pm It has got little tiny nails holding it together and also some caulking in the grooves as I recall.

Title: Re: Removing Glass from Vendo 110 Bottle Door Post by: johnieG on June 03, 2013, 09:29:48 pm Be gentle! sometimes the old wood use in the framing can be dry-rotted on the outer layer & it will try to split on you...(be there, done-that!) :Oo:
Title: Re: Removing Glass from Vendo 110 Bottle Door Post by: Funtronics on June 03, 2013, 09:50:10 pm I think it's just the caulking holding it in at the point you are at. It's been a while since I've did one.
Title: Re: Removing Glass from Vendo 110 Bottle Door Post by: SIGNGUY on June 04, 2013, 10:30:34 am yep, just the old gasket which was actually caulk holding the glass to the inside of the metal frame.. little more pressure and it released. just wasn't sure and didn't want to force it. got it now.. easy  :glare:
Title: Re: Removing Glass from Vendo 110 Bottle Door Post by: johnieG on June 04, 2013, 11:45:30 am This Idea might be of value depending on what condition your wood is in, I've had some old stained glass windows repaired (they had some water-damage & dry-rot along the sill side) & the window shop used a wood restorer product that looked like a watery epoxy to me, but it bonded with the wood to turn the cellulose fibers into a hardened resin that could be drilled & tapped for some new hinges. Just a thought. (just in case)

Title: Re: Removing Glass from Vendo 110 Bottle Door Post by: SIGNGUY on June 04, 2013, 01:34:00 pm luckily the wood frame in the bottle door is in Great shape... no rot and still original grey paint on it.
now the wood frame on the main door that is a different story... I figured out why the door sagged so much.. the hinges that are screwed into the wood frame where loose and the wood frame on the hinge side was split from top to bottom.. so I'll be making a new one which doesn't look too hard. the other wood framing parts are in decent condition,, some wood conditioner and paint maybe and we'll call them good. someone a while back was talking about making all new wood framing with all the notches and mortises cut out? where did that end up? |
