Title: Atlas slider restoration complete (almost) Post by: brasskey on May 14, 2013, 09:44:59 pm I'm 99% complete on my Atlas slider and I thought I would share some pictures. This was my second restoration and first slider (CSS-96 was my first machine restoration). I believe it's a Model 5 but the ID tag was missing. Thanks to Slider Bob for talking me into buying this machine and help/tips along the way. Also many thanks to collecture (Tom) for the coin mech rebuild. It turned out incredible. Lastly, thanks to SJW and Fun-tronics for parts and those who chimed in my posts and offered help on this machine. Here's a link to some original pictures I posted when I first brought the machine home:
http://soda-machines.com/discussions/index.php/topic,15948.0.html I still need to put on the lid handle, rubber stoppers for the lid (when it opens fully), maybe paint the cap catcher black, and maybe a few decals on the coin mech (coin return, coin entry, etc.). I do have one question about the coin entry if anyone can help. Does anyone know what might have been attached on the top of the coin mech box where the coin entry slot is located (6th picture below)? It looks like there might have been a metal piece or chute that screwed on and the coins were dropped through that first. I'm thinking of just getting a decal made to cover the holes other than the coin entry slot. Anyways, below are some pictures. Very well done on the mech Tom. Looks new. Creighton Title: Re: Atlas slider restoration complete (almost) Post by: tkaz on May 14, 2013, 10:00:38 pm Really great job! I haven't seen one of those sliders before, and it sure does look good finished right! I think you could make a nice polished stainless plate and add a coin entry decal to it to finish it off.
Title: Re: Atlas slider restoration complete (almost) Post by: BrianS on May 14, 2013, 10:57:41 pm Very nice looking - always love the Dr Pepper machines.
Title: Re: Atlas slider restoration complete (almost) Post by: brasskey on May 14, 2013, 11:22:09 pm Thanks everyone for the kind words.
I think you could make a nice polished stainless plate and add a coin entry decal to it to finish it off. I didn't think about a stainless steel plate. That's probably what was one there originally. I'll look into it. Thanks. Title: Re: Atlas slider restoration complete (almost) Post by: kbareit on May 15, 2013, 05:40:23 am Looks great Tito, really nice job.

Title: Re: Atlas slider restoration complete (almost) Post by: aspbear on May 15, 2013, 08:03:22 am Great job, I like the Dr Pepper Green. A very nice job I am sure there was a lot of time spent on the machine but it all paid off with a great looking slider...
Title: Re: Atlas slider restoration complete (almost) Post by: Slider-Bob on May 15, 2013, 08:24:21 am Looks great Buddy!
I've got a couple different chrome bezels that were made for the Ideal 35 coin mech. They are the 1/2 camel hump, and full camel hump. You could try them and see if either will cover the coin slot hole and allow a coin to drop in it (not sure if the mech is there to function, or just for looks). Email me/PM me if you want pics (I have a new cell phone number, so the old one won't work). Again, congrats on your beautiful machine! I didn't think about a stainless steel plate. That's probably what was one there originally. I'll look into it. I doubt that it was originally a SS plate, but that will suffice nicely until you can figure it out. I would bet the farm that it had some sort of pot metal bezel on there originally.Title: Re: Atlas slider restoration complete (almost) Post by: ClassicCokeLover on May 15, 2013, 09:43:34 am I love that color. Reminds me of the Mint Julip chews that we bought when we were kids.
Title: Re: Atlas slider restoration complete (almost) Post by: MoonDawg on May 15, 2013, 09:52:15 am Very nice and careful attention to detail, I like it!
It's not your usual slider. For that reason, I like your capcatcher matching the machine. Painting it black would make it look a little too similar to an Ideal. I have a coin bezel from the coin box off an old Kiddie ride. I don't know if it would even cover the hole, also the coin rolls forward so it would miss your coin slot. Something else will come up. Title: Re: Atlas slider restoration complete (almost) Post by: tkaz on May 15, 2013, 10:05:10 am I was able to find a couple of patents from the Sloyer's, looks like they cover the vending mechanisms of this slider, but no pics of the coin entry

It looks like what I was originally thinking - some type of coin chute. Looks to be a vertical one instead on the ones that roll down. It's nice to see an unusual slider getting restored! Title: Re: Atlas slider restoration complete (almost) Post by: mygoose101 on May 15, 2013, 07:46:34 pm Awesome. I don't know a thing about these sliders but I love what would be the flapper part on the Ideal Sliders. Looks extremely clean. Color is awesome. I'm redoing a golf cart right now and you just gave me a great idea for the color of it. The new Fiat also makes a car Dr. Pepper green, either way great job.
