Title: Cooler liners
Post by: krovel on May 08, 2013, 07:13:32 pm
Ok another newbie question, sorry.

I got my first cooler!  I scored an Acton and for me I think I got a pretty sweet deal on it.  I'm trying to fix it up a bit and of course got to a stopping point with the galvanized liner.

What do y'all do with the galvanized liner? Paint it, powder coat, nothing?

I'm fixing it up for myself not looking to score a big time resale or anything like that. Just want it to look cool and last a while.

Thanks

Well, you can go either way depending on your tastes and what you have in the budget. On the high end many here use the silver hamertone powder coat for an awesome long lasting finish. Others have used the cheaper Rustoleum Sliver hamertone in a rattle can for a durable finish then again you can always just clean it up with a little CLR and elbow grease. Like I said it all depends on your taste and budget. If its a keeper then I would go with what YOU will be happy with. 8)

Acton's are nice. Take mine on every camping trip.
Are you going to use it? If so I would just clean it up.
I wouldn't rattle can paint. Won't stick well.
Never powder coated one. Kinda a PITA to get these apart. If the liner or bottom aren't rusted through wouldn't bother with pulling the liner.
Pic?

My apologies, I totally missed the fact it was a portable cooler and not a machine. I agree with Creighton, just clean her up and enjoy!

It was pretty banged up. And like a newbie I had to pull it apart and try to save it.
Thanks for the quick replies

That looks like a lowboy which is slightly more desirable than the "regular" shape.
