Title: I finally joined the Vendo 81D club
Post by: bcharlton on April 28, 2013, 05:44:47 pm
Well I picked this up this morning about a 2 hour drive from Buffalo.  I hope to get inspired and feel the joy others have felt with the Vendo 81d.  It's complete except the bottle opener bezel and the coin mech works on a dime.  I think I like the D (Large door) a little nicer looking than my 81b  small door.  Someone did a lousy paint job on her so it will be a complete restoration.

I will start it after I decide if I am restoring my Jacobs 81.  I have seen some board members do great work on restoring  Vendo 81D's so I may reach out to a few of you with some questions.

Very nice, congrats on the pickup!  When I picked up the 81 large door a few weeks back at the swap meet, there were a few different 81 bezels and a nice chrome crank handle...I'm still kicking myself for leaving them there, I should have used some bundling skills and made a deal for all the parts.

TKaz,

Are the bezels hard to find for it?  I was assuming the Funtronics carried them.

I love my all red 81A, but I too think the large door looks best.
Congrats!

I see them quite ffrequently on eBay.  The bezel that is hard to find is the VMC 81 Bezel.

MaineT

Thanks for noticing the typo. It is a Jacobs 56.  I think I will tackle the Vendo 81D first.  I can't stand looking at that awful paintjob.

Here you go Ed,  I am holding off on my decision but I like them better when they are shiny.

If you have the willpower, go find a crusty one to restore.. that one is pretty nice.

BC,
Get some Dawn soap/Flitz polish and micro fiber towels as well.
Some warm water and mild cleaning/buffing.
Pretty sure that Jacobs will be shinny.
Hope it goes well.

Great pick BC, you amaze me with some of your finds around this area.  I think you need to have a restored USS64 to go along with this one.

Dave,

Isn't a USS64 a "square top"?  Do people really restore square tops?  Just kidding .  Yours looks great.  If I ever decide to do a early 1970s themed man cave, I will call you.

On a side note, does anyone have a disco ball or pet rocks for sale????

LOL
