Title: Re: Non Soda - Any idea what this is off of? Post by: cohammer on April 26, 2013, 11:17:02 pm Is it chrome or pot metal? I think if it were Lincoln it should be stamped FMCO inside. All my ford emblems have that inside.

I found this site: http://fineartamerica.com/art/photographs/vintage+hood+ornaments/all?page=2 Title: Re: Non Soda - Any idea what this is off of? Post by: David D on April 27, 2013, 09:01:17 pm The back is not finished chrome, has a number 4 stamped on it. The bottom has a hole for a screw to bolt it to the hood. Thanks for your efforts.

Very cool example!! If it came from any major car builder would have ID marks in the casting. FoMoCo, RR, GM, Delco, AMC... As stated before. Matters not. It is a great item. Congrats on the find!! My favorite hood ornament is the greyhound that was used on the Lincoln in the early 30's. It was actually designed by the silversmiths at Gorham. Would love to get my hand on one someday.

Title: Re: Non Soda - Any idea what this is off of? Post by: MaineT on April 28, 2013, 06:50:11 am They are typically called Hood Mascots if your looking around. I found one last summer that was off a german WW2 staff car, railroad division. Took me 2 weeks of looking around to finally nail it down.
I thought about collecting them after I found it because they are cool and display well, but the coolest ones are REALLY expensive. Lalique made some back in the day.. Wicked pricey. I put mine on eBay and its probably on a street rod by now. Title: Re: Non Soda - Any idea what this is off of? I don't know of any manufacturers that used Harps, but Hood Ornaments used to be a very big deal. By the way - If it was on a US car, it's a hood ornament. The European's called them Hood Mascots... or more correctly Bonnet Mascots. In British car terms, the Hood is the part that covers your head. Halfway between the Bonnet and the Boot. Either way - cool find! My favorite is the 1950's Jet ornaments. Jim |
