Title: Painting Embossed Lettering - Need Input
Post by: ClassicCokeLover on April 08, 2013, 11:14:24 am
This topic has been mentioned several times, but no real answer has been determined.

My machines are freshly painted and clear coated, now ready for white paint for the embossed areas. We tried the roller method with a tight nap sponge roller, and two different ink rollers. All of these are pulling the paint when applied. Using oil base lettering paint.
Has anyone had success with this method? Looking for near perfect/perfect results.

Please explain. Are you referring to vinyl peel and stick lettering?

I've tried several ways as well,

but I still have best results from my guy who hand paints...

I've tried the vinyl masking and for some reason can't get it to work, others have had great results.

it takes alot of experimenting till you find what works best for you.

It takes some time and pactince but I paint the embossed color first with several coats then I paint the surrounding color over the embossed color . Then I take a sanding block and slowly sand the embossing area until I sand off the surrounding color and revel the embossed color , touch up the embossed area as needed.  then I clear coat over both colors .

I just had a Pepsi 33 painted. (Thanks Zadd). The painter painted the blue and cleared it. Then he had a sign painter come and lay on the letters. He then wet sanded the letters to remove the ridges and cleared it again. They look really good.

I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

I traced all the embossing on my cooler before we stripped it, I scanned and rebuilt all the lettering in Adobe Illustrator,  then I took the files to my friends
sign shop he ran it through his vinyl lettering machine..  Then, on my cooler, we painted the embossed area the antique white, I then applied the vinyl masking letters,
then he painted the rest of the cooler red, once that dried we pealed the vinyl lettering off exposing the antique white paint/lettering, cleared coated the entire
thing and ended up with perfect crisp lettering.
