Title: April Chicago Land coin op show recap
Post by: SIGNGUY on April 08, 2013, 10:56:53 am
Hey Guys, meant to post earlier but got tied up on a house remodel project that we decided to tackle.. more on that later

Just a recap on the SPring Chicagoland SHow... if you've been to others,, pretty much the same thing you see everytime.. If you haven't been, you still got to make it to one of them to check it out as it's is fun..
I brought a buddy who has never been and new he's hooked, had a great time.. even though we only go down for a quick trip.

Ran into the usuals, Rod and Janet from Funtronics, Saw Larry for a short period of time, (SOrry Larry didn't get to talk much with you).. and a few others I've gotten to know over the years... so that was fun.

The sales started early,, I've even heard they started a bit on THURSDAY AFTERNOON.. so that kinda sucked but dont' think we missed much as it was only handfull of vendors..  but Friday morning started out earlier again.. we got into the lot at 4:45AM and it was busy already, some vendors open and many people milling around... I swear it gets earlier and earlier each year... which is crazy..

we walked around for about 1/2 hour and then opened up our booth at 5:30am and we where sold out of nearly everything by 6:15am... so that was pretty cool...

at one point I was dealing on a small 6 pack cooler , some machine parts and a sign to a couple guys , then looked up and it was non other than Tyler and Ron from Ricks Restoration.. .They where there buying up alot of stuff, had a trailer parked off the the side with a bunch of coolers and machines they where buying to haul home...  So we chatted with them for a few minutes completed our transaction and they where off...

so overall, it's always a great time at the show,, sold some stuff, bought some other small non soda realted stuff and will be back in November..

sorry didnt' walk around with a camera as they all start to look the same after a while... but if you've never been , it's worth checking out sometime..

I saw Janet and chatted for a few minutes and then ran into John.  We chatted a few minutes too.  He was gracious enough to lend me his dolly.

 THANKS JOHN

I went to the parking lot to pick up a computer pachinko machine that I bought, off of Ebay, from Lloyd at the Coin op Warehouse.  It is all messed up, but since I never saw one of these, I thought I would take a gamble on it.  I love the old 1970's  Pachinko machines, but when I mounted one in my basement, it was too high.  I have to put it over the foundation wall and it just didn't feel right.  This one is on a stand , is coin operated, the balls payout, and the payout area gets refilled by the spent balls.  So there is no need to keep on refilling the game.  Now I just hope the seventies electronics work.  There are pieces sprawled out everywhere.  It might end up being a paper weight.

Yes, weather was GREAT!!!!

I got a sun/wind burn Thursday.... was worth it though, as I found a few nice candy machines Friday morning.
First time I didn't buy any soda machines at the show, although we did get some other cool stuff.

Thanks for the update.  I have never been but look forward to going some day in the future.  Until then, I guess I'll have to live vicariously through you guys.  If anyone has pics too, some of us never get tired of looking at pics!

Larry you are a brave man for taking on a 70's Pachinko.
Be interested to see how that one goes.

I made it out there Sunday around 1:30 right before they were closing up shop,  noticed allot of the same stuff from year to year with the crazy prices.  The only nice thing about going late was the crowd was gone and it was nice to walk around...

Possibly a sm.com get together may be in order for the next show.  I arrived Wednesday evening after picking a Cavalier 33 up at a guys house.  Also got some neat nos back glasses from the home of a local vendor.  I agree with you all that the thursday morning action was pretty good.  Good enough to have arrived a day early.  Pheasant Run resort is a grat facility with very friendly staff.  Be there or be square.

After talking to Pat and Bob this weekend, I decided I've got to see it at least once.      I'm making plans to be there this year.

Yes, the November show is a great one.. and we typically try to have a Soda-Machines.com get together on THursday night....

so more to come on that. look forward to seeing everyone in November.. (not that I want November to come that quick, cause it feels like it still in April)...
