Title: Refrigerant identification
Post by: on November 17, 2004, 01:08:49 pm
Can anyone tell me what kind of refrigerant is in my Ideal 500A slider?

I'm looking to rebuild the compressor unit, and I was told that it may not be R12, and thus environmentally safe.

Thanks!

Typically all of these earlier machines are R12, there should be an I.D. tag somewhere on the machine or the compressor deck that identifies the refrigerant used & how much.

However if you are replacing your unit's compressor , then the tech will have to use R134, or an approved replacement.
(I'm assuming it's a sealed unit, & not a belt driven mechanical compressor.)

I found the label and it is R12.
