Title: Anyone bottle their own? Post by: bcharlton on February 15, 2013, 12:27:47 pm I am finally restoring my 1957 Bastian Blessing soda fountain and get everything to work. I was thinking of recycling my 8oz glass coke bottles and start re-capping them myself (dues to the fact that I am a little sick of paying a dollor a bottle for 8oz).
Can anyone help me with this? Brian Title: Re: Anyone bottle their own? Post by: bcharlton on February 15, 2013, 12:34:57 pm Breaking it down. This is a lot different than a soda machines. Any help would be greatley apreciated.
Title: Re: Anyone bottle their own? Post by: SIGNGUY on February 15, 2013, 02:40:26 pm I refill my old 6.5oz Hobbleskirt Coke bottles with new product all the time.
Generally fill them with orange and rootbeer for the kids.. they way they can use my machines.. I always have my 81D running with Beer , water and these refilled bottles of rootbeer/orange or grape in the machine. I just buy 2 liters of whatever brand/flavor I want. I clean the bottles ( I have 3 cases that are in great condition and have been cleaned over and over again, steralized, and alwasy rinsed after use... I use my wine making kit gear to bottle them.. I use a siphon out of the bottle, into a bottle filler which fills from the bottom so you dont' get too much foam.. and then I just buy caps at the local brew/wine store and have I have a hand held capper... they stay good for months... I was going to fill them up right from the soda fountain. Does a cycle in the dish washer do just fine as far as sanitation? I need to find a shop that sells bottlecaps. Should they be corked backed? Post by: SIGNGUY on February 15, 2013, 03:51:02 pm I make wine too, so I use my wine making supplies..
you could fill them out of the fountain but it'll take a while as you have to wait for the foam to come down when filling them before bottling.. I buy my caps from a wine/beer making store in town.. or you can find them online.. and no cork doesn't matter, most are not corked any more.. Title: Re: Anyone bottle their own? Post by: kbareit on February 15, 2013, 04:21:33 pm If your using your dispensing system see if you can attach a piece of tubing to the faucet. insert the tube in the bottle to the bottom and fill then cap. Thats how I bottled home brew from the keg.
Title: Re: Anyone bottle their own? Post by: Dvan on February 16, 2013, 09:17:16 pm I have brewed beer for 20 years and it's not hard to make your own soda. There are a 100 different brewing shops online to get soda making supplies. If you are going to use your 8oz bottles I would get a table top or bench capper these are better than the hand capper and can adjust to taller or shorter bottles. Soda making is easy and there are a boatload of flavors to choose from and something the whole family can do. The bad thing about bottling from a 2lt. bottle or a fountain of all ready carbonated soda is if you don't drink it within a few days it will go flat. Once you release the presser the carbonation starts to degrade. All you will really need is a pot, capper, bottles, racking cane maybe a few other things and of course ingredients. Just Google making soda or Youtube making soda and you should get a good ideal of the process. I hope this helps. Title: Re: Anyone bottle their own? Post by: Creighton on February 16, 2013, 09:22:22 pm Great info!!

Title: Re: Anyone bottle their own? Post by: buzz4041 on February 17, 2013, 03:16:48 am I refill my old 6.5oz Hobbleskirt Coke bottles with new product all the time. This just sounds to easy. I just ordered up a case of vintage 7UP ACL bottles and new caps and capper so I can do the same for soda going in my VMC33. I may need to get a few other items as suggested but this should be great to have. I have been vending the 8 OZ cokes but I much prefer 7UP and the vintage bottle to boot will be great. Thanks again SMC for great insight. Generally fill them with orange and rootbeer for the kids.. they way they can use my machines..
