Title: Early Refrigerator Restorations
Post by: ClassicCokeLover on January 23, 2013, 04:42:15 pm
My next project may be a 50s-60s Hotpoint Refrigerator. It has that "tombstone" look to it with the tiny freezer that would hold a half gallon of ice cream. It still runs well, however the cooling system needs to be discharged in order to remove it for painting.
My main concern is locating the original style door seals. Does anyone have info on these?

Thanks! :happydrinkers:

You might have to get aftermarket gaskets such as the Case Parts Copmpany. "caseparts.com"

their gasket looks just like the gasket used on Vendo 81 restorations.

Here's a photo of the Hotpoint that I have, although it's sitting in storage now.  The interior was in near perfect shape, so it's just going to get an exterior paint job.

So is all "appliance white" the same paint choice for these? Are you going to clear coat yours as well?

I decided that I want to do mine in some vintage colors, so I laid out the palette of '57 Chevy colors in Photoshop.  I'm going to end up with one of the blues, just trying to figure out which one!

From the left I like #4. Number 2 is cool as well.

I think the second one is a correct color that would have been used in that time period.  That would be my vote.

I vote for the 5th one. That being because red is my favorite color.

#2, but I am biased, that's the color I am doing the game room in. Like Jim Says, it says '57 Chevy'/
