Hello,
I purchased a Vendo 81B (small coin door) several months ago and am finally getting around to working with it. There is a cord that has been cut hanging behind the coin box; it runs back through the inside of the machine and connects to the wires from the ballast for the light and the cord that runs down through the bottom of the door. I cannot find anything that the cut cord should attach to, and it does not appear that there are any parts missing inside the coin box area. I believe the cord was required on mechs that made change(?) but since mine does not it's not obvious to me what the purpose of this cord was. Can anyone help me out by telling me where this cord should be attached?

Hi & welcome! Be Carefull ! if you have the machine plugged in that pair of wires may have line voltage aross them! 
That wire you see is (was) for the coinmechs heater/resister
that used to keep the coinmech area warm in order to prevent condensation in warm humid weather, and also help keep the coinmech "defrosted" during winter months,
It probably went bad, (or the original owner thought it was wasting power) & was removed....as 99% of these machines are restored & spend the rest of there "lives" indoors , it really isn't needed.
So, if you must have a 100% authentic machine, you'll have to find a replacement to mount on the coindoor's backplate, (even if it isn't functional) or you can do what 99.9% of the other people do & remove the wires & forget about it!

Great - thanks for the response! I was wondering if I could get by with just removing that set of wires or not - sounds like I can.
Just out of curiosity though, if one WERE to want to replace the heater on this, where could you find one? It's really not that big of a deal to me, but on the other hand since I've got it torn apart right now if it's something easy (and relatively inexpensive) to add maybe I might as well do it...

The first time you burn your finger on this heater you will remove it permanantly
