Title: For the drum kit folks.
Post by: Creighton on December 29, 2012, 05:22:40 am
Still needs some work. Was in storage for 30+ yrs.
But do have my 1940's Slingerland Radio King kit back to life.
Very happy.

I love the old slingerland drums, And would love to own a 1 ply radio king snare they are very valuable. Your kit would look awesome in white marine pear finish. I had a 60's slingerland kit it was the black chrome finish I sold it severel years ago, wish I hadnt. The kit i play now is a yamaha maple custom in with a green color stain with a piano lacquer finish.

My first drum kit was a black Slingerland kit from the mid 70's.   Nice sounding drums........

Right now I'm using the orginal Slingerland snare as a tom. Really like the crisp sound the Patent 1914 6 lug Ludwig snare puts out.

Ive got a 4 1/2 by 14 Gretsch snare its got a crack to it you wouldnt believe, it an older Gretsch when they still used jasper maple to make thier shells. My fav snare is a 6 by 14 chrome over brass Ludwig super sensative snare from 1969.

Clowns to the left, jokers to the right...
Have an old Gretch snare as well. Blue pearl. Great snap!! It was my snare for marching band.
Don't miss the marching band days at all.
With any luck this post will return to a discussion of drum kits.
What is everyone liking for mild duty drum heads? Thanks!!

I have been using Remo coated ambassador heads on my toms and awlays on my snare drums they have great tone with lots of attack. I use a two ply Remo clear emperor head on my bass. Have tried many other brands of heads but I think the Remo heads are the best for that old school sound.

Good to hear on the Remo's always used their Weather King heads. Ambassador's it will be.
Thanks!
