Title: Vendo Coin Changer - Merry Christmas to ME! Post by: tkaz on December 18, 2012, 06:16:05 pm Got lucky on this one...popped up on Craigslist two towns over from my new home in Charlotte. Looked like it was in good condition and I've always wanted one, even though it's missing a couple parts. Paid $50 for it! I couldn't get to the guy's house quick enough to make sure someone else didn't grab it.
Got it home and there's no rust on it to speak of, I was a little concerned about rust on the bottom, but it turned out to be some grease. Some quick fiddling and cleaning and it's working great, one quarter and five nickels. I'll be placing an order at Funtronics for the missing pieces, but does anyone have a coin entry bezel or know if they are repopped? Title: Re: Vendo Coin Changer - Merry Christmas to ME! The seller must have known something about it. How as it listed? Title: Re: Vendo Coin Changer - Merry Christmas to ME! Post by: tkaz on December 18, 2012, 07:34:36 pm Seller didn't know a thing about it, I couldn't get out of there fast enough before someone else called with a better offer! The ad was a little off...not sure which part wasn't used!

I agree and was thinking the same thing as Kilroy. At the end of every year TV stations re-broadcast some of the more important events of the year. Here it would be great to read a post highlighting some of the best finds at SMC. Title: Re: Vendo Coin Changer - Merry Christmas to ME! Title: Re: Vendo Coin Changer - Merry Christmas to ME! Post by: tkaz on March 10, 2013, 11:48:38 am Did some work on the paint (wet sand, buff and wax), polished up the bezel and got my artwork from Funtronics...I think it'll be a great display piece! It was definitely repainted at some point, but I really like to keep it original. The insides are getting a good polish and should be done soon.

Title: Re: Vendo Coin Changer - Merry Christmas to ME! Post by: tkaz on March 16, 2013, 09:50:30 pm Got the insides mostly done today, I had pulled everything apart and did some soaking in carb cleaner, then a good polishing. I'm pretty happy with the results, can't complain about the 80 degree day either!

Is the coin block/receiver made from wood...? Title: Re: Vendo Coin Changer - Merry Christmas to ME! Post by: tkaz on March 17, 2013, 10:07:34 am It's not wood Jim, some kind of material I'm not familiar with, it's layered kind of fiberglass looking. Sure does look like wood now that you say that!

Is it like this? We used to have Phenolic block material on the airplanes. It always looked sort of like wood, and it was very light. http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-Pc-aviation-aircraft-Junk-Scrap-Phenolic-Block-spacers-1-3-4-thick-/110777517782 Title: Re: Vendo Coin Changer - Merry Christmas to ME! Post by: tkaz on March 17, 2013, 10:43:25 am yep, that's it, Phenolic...that word wouldn't come to mind when I was thinking of it

Title: Re: Vendo Coin Changer - Merry Christmas to ME! Post by: jbrumett on March 17, 2013, 08:43:50 pm Tom,
What did you use to polish the internals? That looks awesome man...good job Jeff Title: Re: Vendo Coin Changer - Merry Christmas to ME! Post by: tkaz on March 28, 2013, 10:20:16 pm The inside was a little bit of an experiment...I started with oven cleaner to get the initial layer of grime off, then pulled what I could off and soaked in carb cleaner for a few days. Then a fine wire wheel on a drill, followed by #00 steel wool with some chrome polish mixed in. To finish it off, I used one of those foam automotive wheel polishing cones with the chrome polish, which brought that mirror shine to the coin hopper.
