Post by: BONOVOX on December 12, 2012, 07:23:14 am
I just read that Dave Hester (Yuuuuuuuup) from Storage Wars was fired from the show because he claimed that the producers planted items in the lockers, or even staged the entire unit.

If you want to see a show where they planted items watch auction hunters, they find 10,000 plus in every locker. One of the few I watched they found a Jacobs machine in mint condition under a sheet.

And he's suing the show for 750k for wrongful termination to boot!

I have a buddy who lives in the same apartment building as Dave does in Oxnard, California, and he says nobody likes Dave.
Just like the people on the show!  Surprise, Surprise!

Personally, I think when Dave wins a locker, he over exaggerates the value of each item to the point where I just mute it until he's done talking.
"Empty used paper coffee cup...that's $10 dollars (according to Dave), scratched up dresser...$200, end table with broken glass...$50, etc, etc."

Sure Dave!

I agree that I think auction hunters may be staged or have plants in them, but they did have a making of show and they said they have to go through 20 lockers to find one that will make the tv show!

Its funny how most of us, myself included, complain about these shows but yet most of us watch them, even if only occassionally.  I have ruined it for a lot of novices when I tell them American Pickers or Pawn Stars is staged, they think its all real but at the end of the day most of us still enjoy the shows and find them entertaining, even if it is just because we spend the entire half hour yelling at our TV set.

Although it's staged, I think we all watch these shows because we like what they infact "show"  Like that episode when the guy with the tank top and his son found an Eskimo Pie little container, in a locker that had 2 cardboard boxes in it.  It was SO obvious that was planted, but in the end, we got to see something unique.

I fast forward all the bidding and start watchin at the dig of the lockers.

American Pickers I don't think it too staged, although I find it funny that they are doing a "cold call" and there happens to be a camera filming them coming into the property lol.

American Pickers is sooooooooo staged.  If you are active on oldgas.com you will see a few threads from time to time discussing how they stage stuff.  Do you really think they go from Iowa to Pennsylvania to South Carolina in that van.  I have also noticed within some episodes they mess up their timeline.  As they are leaving to go on a pick there is something in the background that catches my eye and then later in the show they are pretending to buy it, how did they have back at the shop in Iowa before they bought it somewhere else later?

Bonovox...

You are referring to Darrell and his son Brandon (aka Brando).

I shouldn't know that, but I do.  I digress.

I love when they high five for some over inflated appraisal

I watch them all over here.. Pickers is best not because of what they pick but because of what is lurking in the background.
Some might be staged but they can't stage ALL the hoard. My eyes are evrrywhere when they open the barn. They almost always
miss the best bits and go to the staged items.

Watched Restoration the other night where Rick restored a stamp vendor and charged the guy $1000. You can pick up NOS machines
for around $100 on eBay. What a load of old !%@$e...

You have to know that Storage Wars, especialy, is staged. How many people are going to abandon a storage unit with thousands of dollars worth of items.  I do like the shows for the entertainment value, beats most of the other crap on TV.

I talked to a person that has been in the storage auction business for 25 years and he told me he has never found money in any of the storage units he bid on and won.  What a bunch of crap.  They find money in those units all of the time.

Glad it was finally exposed.

We all know a lot of it Fake .

It is my belief that the termination and lawsuit are just a big publicity stunt created by the producers to increase ratings.

Not that I'm backing any of the show's mentioned. I used to clean out and secure foreclosed houses. You'd be surprised what people leave behind.

The found money and jewelry really irks me.  Who in their right mind would put those items in a storage unit?  Especially the money that they could have used to pay the monthly rental of the unit they walked away from.  I have pretty much stopped watching Pawn Stars and Pickers due to the over-the-top reactions and sellers who travel across the country with valuable treasures.  Still watch American Restoration just to see what items are brought in and restored.

I know a lady who goes to these all the time here in Austin and she said 99% of its junk but said she resales most of it at flea markets and does ok. SHe said her best haul was that she did find 3 Fender Strats that she sold for about $5000 a piece. I guess you can get lucky every once in awhile.
