Title: Cav -51 Value
Post by: MaineT on December 07, 2012, 12:33:14 pm
Ok, so this past summer I looked at a Cav-51 and passed on it because its a single vend, I couldnt move it myself pending back surgery, and it wasn't what I was looking for at the time. It was extremely clean, complete and original. I didn't climb all over every inch, but at the time it was the cleanest original I had ever seen in person.

It was in a shop as decor in a very high end area shop. This is an area that people pay $4000-7000 per week to rent a house on the ocean. I looked around and told him to put it in the window for $1995 and take any offer over $1400 he gets and that's a lot more than I could pay.

So I get a call out of the blue and long story short, he never got around to putting it out front with a sign and also made a comment, can't block the product. (He is retail, not resale)

I asked him how much and he said $1000. I know there are no pictures, but anyone have any thoughts of that price if it tests out working ok? I know it has a cult following with being a belt machine, but it still a single vend.

I'm looking at this as a pay $1000 or not.

Paid $500 for a set of 2 Cav 51's. I know that's a steal, but I still don't think these machines are worth $1000. As far as single vend machines I'd rather drop $1000 on a nice 39. I think if it runs and is in decent condition, $700 is more realistic. That's just me, I wouldn't knock anyone for paying too much in my mind if they really wanted it. I do it all the time!

I had the opportunity to work on one a few weeks ago, it's a little more difficult than most.

It always come down to what do you want it for..

if you really like it and it's a nice original and you want it for display.. then pay what you can for it...

but if your looking for something to buy and flip then 1000 is way too much to make any money on it..

Good luck!

Sometimes the originals are the best machines!  Shouldn't take much to clean that one up!!!!

Thanks. I wasnt joking when I said cleanest original I'd ever seen in person!! That's why I was thinking of paying top of the mark on the price, but didnt have to pay it.

It was in a New Hampshire country store since new until there was an auction where this owner bought it from 15+ years ago. Went from the store to a retail shop.

My vendo 39 was the only one I've seen original condition and this nice and I sold that to buy an 81 that needed total restoration... Hindsight, don't know if it was the best move.

Looks Great... Nice clean orignals belong in Collections.. I don't care if it's used or not.. but only a true collector will appreciate the beauty of an original... that has value in itself.

Great pickup.. enjoy it..
