Title: My project Vendo 63
Post by: scline74 on December 06, 2012, 10:14:54 pm
I bought my first machine that I am going to keep for myself. I have help restore a couple machines but havent ever had one of my own. I stumbled across this one on craigslist and gave 250 for it but it cools great. My wife says leave it like it is but I am an HVAC-R tech and run a powder coat business on the side. So of course I want to make it like new. What do you think..

Looks like you have a good start, I personally like to restore them unless they are already in great shape... Welcome to your new addiction

Welcome to the board. Nice first machine!!
The paint looks pretty good. May be able to just buff and wax that.
Bottle stack, shelves etc... are great when powder coated.
Would look so much better with a lighted sign. Easy to do.
Search on powder coat and lighted sign and you should get some idea's.
Need any help just ask.

That is a nice machine and you and the wife can compromise.

The faceplates on the bottle stacks always should be powdercoated because of chip and rust issues. The paint around perimeter of the glass doors on the 63's almost all flake off, but it's easy to remove so it could also be powdercoated along with the bottle door, hinges and even the Coca Cola sign if you don't light it up.

But I think you should keep the red all original.

Welcome to the board!  Your story sounds pretty similar to mine...started off with a working Vendo 90, wife said leave it as is, but I couldn't resist tearing it down...5 years and about 20 other machines later, I finally finished it!  Welcome to the hobby, the floodgates are open...

I think the 63 is a good machine to start with, I'd look for a light up sign for the marquee, you'd be amazed at how quick that'll make it look good.

You lucked out on your first machine, your next one may really need your TLC.

Welcome to the Site....

Now just make room for more to come.  When you notice that you park 1 car outside instead of the garage you know you have a serious addiction!
