Title: Split 110 Vendo
Post by: BONOVOX on November 06, 2012, 06:48:29 pm
Do you guys think this is from back in the day, or just a guy trying to make his machine more marketable.
(segregated drinking fountain on the machine)

Since the top has been repainted, it is hard to tell. Did they have sharpies back then?

Also, Its in Phoenix, not exactly the hub of segregation. More of a red flag, not proof for anything.

A drinking fountain was simply in option.  I don't believe they were rare by any means!!

This is a joke. Now we have a poor man's version of the Cavalier 102 but for $5k maybe not exactly too poor. So if I bolt on drinking fountain to the back of a machine would that make it even more rare? Heck, I'll add one to the front also get a sharpie and put Asians, Hispanics, or whatever and charge $10,000. Ridiculous!

Brown vs the board of education was 1954 abolishing seperate but equal doctrine. Anyone know if the machine was produced prior to 54?

i'm so not buying the story.

According to the serial number, it was made in January of 1956.

Wouldn't it be the other way around; "Whites" get the sodas while "Blacks" just the water?
Very suspect indeed!

Okay, just saw the second water fountain on the "Colored" side, which actually supports my point further; it is backward (pun intended).

Missed the "Colored" water fountain the 2st comment around, but further advances my point this is a scam and the guy got it backwards (pun intended); one would think "Whites" of the time would be the ones with the option of water and/or soda; while the "Coloreds" would be simply relegated to water. Also, how does one restore hand written BS- before/after pix would go a long way in giving this some plausibility, but bet they don't exist for a very good reason! Extreme fail; especially given the subject matter, seems to be nice machine otherwise, I am a 110 fan.
