That is the weirdest CL ad I have ever seen. Really. Almost freaky. The last picture where it is buried gives me the creeps.

Great caption BTW, "Can you dig it?" Super funny.

I am surprised it is empty. Why?
You think he re-buried what was inside??

What were you expecting? the disembodied head of a Coke delivery man murdered & buried by his Evil Pepsi competitor?...Bwah Ha Ha Ha..... :wow:  it's a tad on the weird side I'll grant you that, it would have been easier to dump it on a back country road, or push it into a lake. but hey, if you have the time on your hands & want to dig a four-foot hole to put the machine in, why not?  OH I know! it's haunted! & this was once a pet cemetery or ancient Indian burial ground !!!  It's baaack.... :tounge:

It probably would but the cord was cut by the shovel so the buyer will have to check that out!  8) This has to take the cake as the most interesting CL ad I have ever seen.

ok, I'll attach the ad for posterity sake since it is aparently funnier then I first realized. The best picture is at the top, so I will post the after picture too.

So this past Saturday started as most others. Mow the lawn, whittle away at the honey-do list, which included planting some shrubs...So I start digging a hole and come across a small red box. I dig around it a bit more and the darn thing still won't budge. Then I notice writing on it. It says Coca Cola. A little more digging. The little red box is attached to something much bigger. Search the internet. OK its Much Much bigger. By the end of the day Sunday we had it out of the ground and the 6 cubic foot hole refilled and no the shrubs haven't been planted yet (but the hole is ready).

Despite being buried in my yard for who knows how long, It seems to be in decent shape. The lettering on the chest looks great and the tub is solid with just a little dis-colorization. The coin box and lid got beat up the worst. The compressor is in place but shows plenty of corrosion. My best guess is that it is a V-139.

Looking for best offer. Will consider trades.

Just an idea for anyone close to this machine.
Pick it up from the guy, take it home and re-bury it, compacting the soil well as you do and wait a few weeks until it is dry and hard again.
Meanwhile send the sellers photo to some of these reality TV shows. They can come out and film some guys digging this thing out then they will send it off to Vegas where impossible things always happen to machines just like this.  :happydrinkers:
Not sure how much the network would pay but it sure could make good viewing.

This guy digs one hole and finds a Coke machine?
I'd be sinking a probe into the rest of the whole yard.
Maybe find the rest of all those Orange Crush 81's.

Rick, is going to be mad he had buried it for a future restoration and was going to make it into a Westinghouse chest...

Wonder if the guy's house is built over what was once a dump or landfill?

I was going to mow my lawn today but now I'm afraid to thinking something might come out of the ground and eat me alive.

I'd be buying a metal detector and a backhoe.

I can't imagine coming across that in my yard!  Makes me curious for that area, since they have had some brutal floods in the last few years.  I wonder if that was buried or just a casualty of the flooding at some point.  Either way, what a cool find!

I'm guessing it was planted there with hopes that other machines may sprout from it's seed?

some people plant fruit and vegetables.... others apparently Coke vending machines..

I am suprised it's not all rusted through?

I bet this guy's property was filled land much like my parent's rear yard was.  When someone digs up my parent's yard, they are gonna find Volkswagen Bug parts buried in the rear.

Its somewhat common up here in the north east. My dad helped his grandfather bury 5-6 scrap cars back in the late 50's on the family farm cause that is just one of those things they did back then. They also had a dump sight for the trash, past the area that the outhouse was for years before my dads time. The farm and land was sold back in the late 70's and chopped up and built on during the 80's and 90's. Now that land is all houses and but they missed the dig area for the cars which would be back yards right now. Someone will be very shocked if they put an addition on!!

And yes, we do have that new fangled indoor pluming now, some even have one of those cement ponds!!!

I believe that this was a common practice for Coca Cola.  I know when they closed the plant here in Harrison they dug a pit and buried all of the signs and machines said it was cheaper than transporting all of them to another plant.

Of course people went out and recovered everything they buried....

There is a junk yard here in my hometown that had a sink hole... I talked with a few retired Coke guys years ago.. they are all gone now
Mr. Ward said he and another guy took truck load after truck load of the old nickle machines and dumped them in this area and Coke
came and made sure these were covered with dozers...

Now that has me wondering if this guy has more?... weird find for sure...

Running a ground penetrating radar sled over that area would be interesting.

There is an old Dump just outside my town as well, that was a dump... pretty common practice of hauling old machines and "junk" out of the old plant to the dump...

it's probably 20 feet of dirt over that area now and all wooded...
