Title: These followed me home today
Post by: jbrooks on October 04, 2012, 06:47:32 pm
I am not sure if I am happy or not to have brought these home today, I fell like I just bought a boat.  The deal was too good to pass up, my buddy is taking the tan one and we are going to restore them together.  This will be my first attempt at tearing into something like this.

They weigh a ton for the size they are.. but painted the right color they can look awesome.. and they sit so close to the wall that they don't take up much space.
they aren't as popular as the older stoners but I think in time these will get more popular... like the the mirror.... does it have Candy etched in it?

From the picture in the ad I thought they may have been stoners but for the price i couldnt pass them up.  The brown one does have candy etched in the glass, the tan does not.  They are heavy but I did not think they were rediculously heavy

Nice National Candy machines.  There are still quite a few of these around.  I have even seen some still in use from time to time.  They can vend a lot of candy.  As state not quite as collectible as the Stoners but they may get there someday.  These can usually be had for around $100 in my area.

You'll be amazed at what you can do with them.
As a first big project they are ideal and with a mate doing one too there will be a
lot of motivation flowing.
Great decals and paint scheme and you will be well pleased you made the effort to get them home
An investment in the future that you'll have fun weith in the meantime.
Well done...
Dave

Thanks for the positive sentiments.  I am pretty much set on a two tone paint job.  1950's Chevy light blue with an off white stripe down the middle of the front between the trim.  I love these colors and I think they will really show the shape and details of this machine well

I will be sure to post pics, removed the nasty old candy and got the insides pretty clean.  We tried taking the cabinet apart but the way it is assembled we decided it would be easier to just leave it together.  I think we may just strip them down and paint them.

Very cool....I personally like them.... lots of chrome and a big mirror...especially when they are restored with a  vintage look ..... would like to see how they turn out.

So Hurricane Sandy gave me the time to tackle this one also.  This was my first large project.  Does anyone know how to change the vending amount on these?  It is currently set to .65 cents.
