Title: So I traded a restored machine for this..
Post by: Slapshot42 on October 03, 2012, 10:23:07 pm
So, about 16 months ago I decided to restore my first machine; a WD-10.  It was a great project.

Like a typical "Newbie" I went all out, finished the machine and realized that it was too nice to keep outside and too big to bring inside.

I advertised the machine locally, on Craigslist, and listed it twice on ebay with not single bit of interest.  So I decided to trade with another collector. It was a long process but I think it ended up okay.  The new owner has a full retail antique store and is planning on displaying it there.  I had far to too much money into the restoration, but the traded as far as market value nearly evened things up as far as cost, NOT labor... :darn:

This machine is a nice original, runs, cools, and vends, with a change giver.

Great trade. Welcome to the RT-56 club. Looks all original. Is the coin mech warmer still getting power?  If so I'd disconnect that.

I can help if you want to convert it to a glass door. PM if interested.

That rust-free 56 is about the nicest original I have ever seen, nice trade!

Don't feel like your work was done for free, you gained valuable knowledge.
That 56 is well worth $2500 or more, so even if you spent that much on your first restoration you are still ahead. There are probably very few machines out there you would be afraid to tackle now, and you will know how to a first class restoration and how you can do it do it even more cost effectively.

I think you went from being a Newbie to being a pro in 16 short months, nice job.

Jared was probably losing sleep over worrying that he might not get it, the deal would fall thru, the other trader would back out, etc.

He wasn't losing sleep over if he made the right decision or not...he knew he made the right decision...it was all in the execution of the deal!

What a nice machine!!!!

Nice trade! & Nice machine!

Welcome to the RT56 club!!!

I thought that being in that club might get us as honorary members of the Michigan Mafia... but no luck.
Apparently ya need naked pics as incriminating evidence to use as leverage to get it... I dunno lol

Enjoy the 56!  It is a cool looking machine

Fantastic looking original machine.  Question for Tom on the coin mech.  Since the Do Not Deposit Coins Unless Product is Visible statement is on the front of the coin door is it safe to say that this machine at one time did not have a change giver coin mech?  Would rather have a change giver than not so was this a common upgrade back in the day?

I think  you made a great trade.  The 56 is one of my favorites and you really got ahold of a nice one.  Congratulations.

I believe it absolutely did not originally have a change-giver in it as evident by the coin entry decal "Insert Dime or 2 Nickels". No mention of a quarter (or change). I would bet the farm that it originally had a SD/LD mech in it as it is the only LD mech that cannot return coins after acceptance.

Nice machine Jared!

Every orginal RT-56 that I have seen on ebay or whatever over the years has "Do Not Deposit Coins If Bottles are not Visible behind door".  Solid or glass bottle door same.
The "Use Correct Change Only" flag is linked to the nickel change tube. All screws appear orginal so I think it has always been a change giver. Just got a replacement decal or bezal at some point.
Non change givers did not have the flag. Seems a stretch that someone would add nickel tube mech and flag assembly. But you never know.
Matters not.
Great machine!!

Appreciate the comments Glen!  I think I have a long way to go but it's been a a good ride so far.  Have many people here on the site to thank. It's a privilege to be able to have access to such a great resource!!

Maybe now that I have two RT 56's they allow me some leverage....
