Title: Ideal 35 thoughts
Post by: 00Dawg on September 27, 2012, 01:49:57 pm
With my new addiction to MexiCokes, I've removed a couple of other machines (like the Vendo 23) from my possibles list and focused on the one that should be perfect for my needs:  the 35 Slider.  (I think) It can hold pretty much any size bottle, isn't very big, and theoretically isn't that rare.
However, to date the only ones I've found are online through stores or eBay, fully restored, and cost in the $3k to $4k range.  It also occurred to me that I have yet to see one in the Craigslist ads for my metro area or anywhere close.
Is this a case of a more uncommon machine than I had thought, that others are snapping them up due to their utility so working ones in decent shape are hard to come by, or am I just a cheapskate?

Yeah, my Ideal 55 is full of Mexican Cokes right now so I can understand what you mean.  The Ideal 35 seems to be a fairly rare machine and I have never seen one on Craigslist here in Houston.  Heck, in the past year I have only seen maybe 5 Ideal 55's or Glasco Sliders.  I do think I saw a Pepsi Ideal 85 recently though.  It might just depend on where you are located.

35's are harder to come by.
If you want a slider Ideal produced a 55, and  Glassco also  made a similar  model.  Both can be found for a lot more reasonable price.
Have you also considered a  multi vend  square top? The shelves are adjustable so  different size bottles can be used,  and depending on the model, you can get a working square top Cavalier or Vendo for under $400, The Vendo 56 and V81 also are multi vend, but  you would pay more

You'd have to have seen how the Lowe's guy and I got our deep freeze down to our basement to understand fully, but let's just say the slope down to the outside door let us reenact some scenes from Cannonball Run on his dolly.  I may have to step up to the 55 anyway, but a taller 300+ lb machine is pretty much out.

Moondawg has a unrestored 35 slider in his shop but I don't know if it's for sale.

I had one for a few weeks.  Bought it cheap and flipped it.  Still regret getting rid of it!    :darn:

The generic white one?  I'm afraid I'm not equipped for painting.
I'm also eyeing a 55 at that price elsewhere online, and it looks much better.
