Post by: buzz4041 on September 07, 2012, 10:47:16 am
The machine is stripped down and has been bead blasted now. Got to see the embossment from the inside.  :happydrinkers: All looks good and solid.

It will be just like original. I don't care for the coke look myself on this machine.

Not what was being asked on ebay that is for sure  I spent a long time negotiating with Carl and we finally struck a deal for the machine and restoration
 together.

A few more updates on the restoration available. It is in primer now and the chrome parts are back from the chromer. The cooling unit is freshly painted.

Yes I am excited. I believe this is going to knock my socks off. Only problem is I won't get to see it till about Feb. of 2013 due to work. I guess my wife will enjoy it till then for me. I get home in another week for a couple weeks and will clear out a spot for it in the shop.

That's the inside view that the West coast sellers refused to show when they were selling all those 7up and Pepsi 44's.

Was going to ask the same thing about your sign painter.  How did you find him?  Looks like he does a fantastic job.

It is Carl Coates's sign painter. He is handling the restoration I believe.

Yes he did the sides also. The decals we found were not correct for the machine so Carl had his painter do them instead.

He is Carl Coates painter and he is an artist to say the least. Carl had showed me some of his other works and he is amazing. Carl is lucky to have him on his restorations.

Carl has been great to work with. He keeps me updated with progress photos and will handover a complete restoration file documenting the whole thing as to the authenticity of the machine.

Carl is getting close to re assembly as the majority of the parts are all ready and the cabinet is ready to accept them. From what I see in the photos I am very pleased in how it is coming along.

Obviously I'm sure Carl knows what he's doing but where is the new gasket? kinda hard to put that on after the door liner is screwed on?  just a simple observation?

Fun-Tronics sells the proper gasket that is missing and that is needed...

Not picking on his work but I would for sure want the junction box chrome plated to give the compressor area some more shine.

It just must be his way of doing assembly. It will have a new door seal for sure.

I don't See the Door Liner ??? Looks like undercoating
It is a door liner not undercoating.

If the part was not originally chromed it will not be chromed on this particular restoration either as of choice.

Thanks for your insight guy's. It helps to receive your comments so I know what to look out for.

I doubt that is the case and I really appreciate the feedback from members as I have never done a restoration on a soda machine so all comments are welcomed.

Doesn't the gasket have to be screwed on as well when putting the liner in?... the gasket goes between the main door and liner right?..

Title: Re: 81 7UP restoration
Post by: SIGNGUY on October 18, 2012, 08:20:19 am
yes, that is why I made that comment.. I've never seen or know of a way to put the door liner on first without the gasket lip underneath it... I wouldnt' think he'd take out all the screws and put it back in? just seemed wierd to me.... :glare:

Title: Re: 81 7UP restoration
Post by: collecture on October 18, 2012, 09:12:56 am
I am thinking he is waiting on a gasket (or something) and simply has the liner hanging on there by a single screw center top.

New holes always have to be drilled for 81 liners. I think it was about the time it was being sized for new holes that it got hung just for the photo shoot.

As discussed Carl has his way of doing the job and the new gasket is installed correctly as required.

The machine is just about complete with only a few things remaining to be complete. I think it turned out stunning and am glad I made the decision to have it restored to it's original glory. What do you think ?

Looks AWESOME

 :happydrinkers:

Glad you kept it all white... as it should be.
Although I'm turning my 7up 110 half green, simply because the 110 is much larger, and it's just too much white.

Guess I'll just have to buy another one and have both!

Carl has completed the restoration and it is being packaged and ready to ship. The wife should see it some time next week I suppose. I can't wait to see it when I get home in January. I have to get that new shop built (50's Texaco station) next year so it has a nice place to sit.
