Title: Chest Cooler Value
Post by: SodaShopNick on June 17, 2012, 03:53:35 pm
Need some help with this one I saw at a local Flea Market today (see picture).  Looks to be a Westinghouse 10, but it has two cap catchers and the other ones I have seen have one.   I would like see if anyone can confirm the type and a general value.  Overall it is in very nice condition with very little rust even inside and the owner claims it works (famous last words, I know).

You are right its a Westinghouse WD-10.  They are a dry box, and actually could be equipped with 4 cap catchers.  This cooler has a spot for 4 capcatchers because of the butterfly lids.  It the only Post War machine with Pre War lids.

They made them for about 2 years and than designed the WD-12.  Same compressor, just configured to hold 2 more cases of soda.  The capcatchers are usually always missing.  They can bring close to $125-150 each at auction.

I'm 99% complete with the restoration of one.  I bought mine for $275.00.

$800.00 no way!  I wouldnt pay more that $425.00

I would kill for oney of those capcatchers.  Often only one is seen because they are always missing.

Slapshot42,

Thanks for the detailed info.  I knew $800 was too much, but I passed on it anyway.  If it is there after a few more weekends I might make him an offer of about half.
