Title: Is there anything I can do to this? Post by: scalebowler on June 12, 2012, 12:23:08 am Is there anything I can do with these to make them look nicer? They are all welded and riveted together and really nasty looking so I can't dissassemble them to paint or anything like that. Should I just clean the old grease off of them and just lube it up and put it back in the machine? Also this is one of the "clean" ones the others are much more rusty and nasty looking.

You can't remove anything further from it? Like the electronic coil or the plastic roller type thing on the left? If you can get it down to bare steel (check for aluminum rivets), then it could be plated. Title: Re: Is there anything I can do to this? If you can get it down to bare steel (check for aluminum rivets), then it could be plated. It is a vending gate from a lacrosse can machine. I can remove almost everything from it and I would think about plating it but I really don't think my boss would want to spend that kind of money on this machine. Main problem is that the rust has gotten to the point where it is starting to affect the sliding action of the gate and I think that any sanding of the parts would just make things worse since it would expose bare metal to the damp insides of the machine. You could have all steel parts of the stack plated for under $100 easy.
