Title: What's the most consistently overpriced machine?
Post by: Kaleid20 on June 03, 2012, 01:13:03 am
Just curious what you pros out there think is the most "overrated" machine out there. I'm talking every ad you ever see is overpriced on this particular model. For me I don't think I've ever seen a Vendo 44 priced under $2000, unless it was just scrap. Great looking machine and practical for the house, but single vend and kinda boring IMO.

Your thoughts?

I agree, not a big fan of the 44.

I would have to say any machine restored by Rick Dale.

BUt on a serious note, yeah, I would agree that the 44 is overpriced, yet is keeping it's value, and/or getting the prices that are asked of (in most cases)

Lol I thought the same thing as bonovox.  The vendo 44 is mostly overpriced being a single vendor at least v 80 parts can be used in 81s making them more usefull even if its a single flavor machine.

Vendo 23's must run a close second.

44 and 23, both single-vend but SMALL machines. I'm guessing most of the people bidding up the price, plan on using a "Coke machine" for display only.

Although the 44 is usually overpriced, what machine isn't, it can't be considered over rated. I think it's the one machine that launched this hobby. I remember seeing it in the Sharper Image Catalog back in the late 80's and thought it was the coolest thing ever. Besides women love them so how can we argue that. When you have 33's and 39's ranging from $500 to $6,500 then those 2 I think would be on the top of my list as for being overpriced but the same can be said for all machines really that you see either on e-bay or CL. I still don't understand the $3,000 square corner machine either.

Not a 44 fan either but they go for stupid money sometimes.

I would have to say the Vendo 83. That machine is not very pretty, but still people give it the "RICK" price. Now I do like the Jacobs look but I agree with cohammer, they are way overpriced.

... but still people give it the "RICK" price.

Never heard that term used before.  I spit coffee all over my monitor.

I have to vote 0n the V44 also.

I agree on the 44 too..
Had a guy last year wanting to know if i buy machines.. I said yea, went to look at what he had...
he had 3 FULLY RESTORED VENDO 44's in his "airport Hanger".. the guy said he bought them in chicago at he coin op show over 15 years ago and was holding them as in investment... asked me to make an offer..

of course knowing the market the way it was , and taking into the fact that they where restored but signs of improper storage where showing on the paint and chrome already...  I made what I felt a "Fair" offer was , and he got all mad and started yelling at me telling me I don't know anything.. he said he paid 6500.00 EACH for these machines 15 years ago and the guy he bought them from said they should "DOUBLE" in price by now!

I tried to explain to him the reasons why my offer was lower than when he thought , and he just hung his head and said he'd sit on them till things turn around...
