Title: Jacobs 26
Post by: Dave on June 02, 2012, 06:26:23 pm
I picked this up at the Chicago coin op show a few years ago.
I know these were all made for Coke only, but this one has been vending Dr. Pepper
since the early 60's. There was a receipt inside it for a couple of cases of Dr.Pepper dated 1963.
The "old school" fountain is killer too.

wow, thanks for sharing the pics.
Interesting to see the jacobs in Pepper colours!
What are your plans for the machine?  Restore it to Coke again, or do a fantasy DP Jacobs?

I think it is cool the way it is. It's very likely the D.P. company did that paint job and decals, so history would be lost if it were stripped and re-painted.
It's interesting to see a waterfountain on the side of a Jacobs. Thanks Dave.

You're right moondawg,
It would be kind of a shame to restore it. I think I'm just going to leave it "rustic".

It seems the rustic look has gained in popularity the last couple of years.
I picked this Wayne 60 gas pump up from a collector in Kansas. It was solid with only surface rust.
After getting it home, I decided to do a "rustic restoration" on it, instead of a full blown one.
I wanted to save the original orange Phillips 66 paint the best I could. I wet sanded the entire pump, put 4 coats of satin clear on it, rewired it, and located the original missing  pieces. It makes a very cool night light.

I really like that weathered/patina look, I think you're on to something there!

My favorite one as well.  Now I need to get around to restore it.

Another shot of the "Dr Pepper" Jacobs 26.
