Title: Vendo 23 restoration - well partial Post by: Kaleid20 on May 26, 2012, 04:23:52 pm Ok, so went ahead and got nuts today since I had nothing else to do. The compressor needs a replacement cord and as you can see the tub needs repairing. I went ahead and pulled the thing apart. Thought I'd post for any added suggestions or tips going forward.

I liked your idea we talked about on the phone. I don't see a problem, tack welding
new cylinders. the smashed ones, are in a location that we can get to. BTW, nice machine and really a clean job removing everything... Title: Re: Vendo 23 restoration - well partial Post by: Kaleid20 on May 26, 2012, 05:34:09 pm Here's some more pics, the tub completely out now. You can see the only real trouble spot is the front door has some rust at the top that will need to be treated....at some point. Also took a closer pic of the compressor. I think a whole new harness is needed.

Spent Friday hanging out with Eric at the world famous GLOBAL COMPRESSORS headquarters. Learned the ways of the force and how to rewire a compressor. Yes, Im pretty green.
Anyways, due to concerns over cutting into the refrigeration coil on the tub the only real option I was left with was working the drink shafts back in place. This was going to be a chore, but not as much as cutting each one out. Spent 3 hours today bending and prying a good circle back. I have a 8 oz Coke bottle I obviously used to check each one and it actually came in handy working some of the dents out. Those bottles are tough! BEFORE: (http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e293/Kaleid20/IMG_2733.jpg) AFTER: (http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e293/Kaleid20/2012-06-16_20-15-03_433.jpg) Also started sanding down the compressor for repainting. The copper lines will be repainted as well. Any idea how they got bent?
Thanks, Creighton Title: Re: Vendo 23 restoration - well partial Post by: cohammer on June 16, 2012, 10:47:51 pm I have taken a piece of wood and ground it down on my bench grinder to a point and used it to drive down in the tubes and straighten them out.

It's a big reason I got this puppy so cheap. Seller didn't know...of course. I can stand on this thing and not bend them, pretty much take a bowling ball falling at about terminal velocity to crater this thing they way it did. I have taken a piece of wood and ground it down on my bench grinder to a point and used it to drive down in the tubes and straighten them out. Good idea, might try that tomorrow. Doesn't need much more, just some nice massaging to get the crinkles out and allow the bottle to slide in without any catching. (you can rent them)

(you can rent them) Love it Johnie! I was thinking the same thing, those little beasties work really well. If you have a Harbor Freight Tools (aka Horrible Freight) near you, you can pick one up for less than $20. (you can rent them) Worth a shot. I think that could be what I need to finish up with. Amazon has a bunch for $20...I'll grab one. Thanks! Title: Re: Vendo 23 restoration - well partial Post by: Kaleid20 on June 20, 2012, 10:53:25 am The hammer of Thor arrived today.
(http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e293/Kaleid20/2012-06-20_10-10-36_393.jpg) Put it too work and within 20 minutes had all the bad cylinders expanded enough to where the bottle slides in effortlessly. The bottle in the picture is in the cylinder that had the most damage. Thanks to you guys that recommended this awesome little tool. Must own for any Vendo 23. I frequently step in the garage barefoot (intending to just be in there for a second) and tinker with one of my sliders for a 1/2 hour before I realize I should probably have shoes on. Nice job on fixing your machine! Title: Re: Vendo 23 restoration - well partial Post by: johnieG on June 20, 2012, 02:47:19 pm Another satisfied customer! :happydrinkers:
