Title: Found Westinghouse select-o-matic vend motor point of destruction
Post by: LEDCREATIONS on May 24, 2012, 04:38:12 pm
So I decided to cut open two broken vend motors out of a westinghouse select-o-matic machine. Both motor electrical components work but the gears wont turn.

I found the gear that strips
After he electric motor gear turns it contacts a bigger wooden type gear which if the vend motor has to struggle to work the vend mech or gets stuck will strip the gear.

I'm in the process of finding a plastic gear that can replace the broken one.
I plan to replace the gear and weld up the cuts made to get into the sealed gear box.
I hope it works out since these motors are hard to come by.

I was nervous about that when I pulled apart my Westy motor, I found that one gear was slightly stripped and I could get past it with a couple of small shims.  Unfortunately there isn't a stop mechanism when the bottles get jammed in there, you are either going to burn the motor or strip the gears.

Mine wasn't a sealed unit, it took some prying in the right spots, but it came apart in two pieces.

Your right on the money! That's how my working motor got stripped from a can getting lodged.
If I can find a gear the same diameter it might just work.
