Title: Question on Stoner 180
Post by: Jacko1070 on May 24, 2012, 02:44:14 pm
On my mirrorless '62 Stoner (earlier post) I am trying to find a new lock as the other has long since departed.   Question is on the Soda Decals site and they have two different locks, and I am not sure which one I need.   The hole for the lock is on the front and the internal mechanism is what's throwing me.   The "front lock" on the site looks like it has an "L" shaped lock bar, but it doesn't look like it would fit my mechanism.   The locking mechanism has a center piece that is pushed in and then it must be raised to unlock it.   I'm not an engineer, but I can't see how the lock on the site would achieve this.   Any suggestions?  And if no one has the foggiest idea what I am speaking of I can get a picture.

My thoughts are the locks were relocated to the front so machines would not have to moved when multiple vending machines are lined side-by-side...
I would suggest posting a link or two to what you are looking at as well as a picture or two of your linkage/lock assembly...
If my memory serves me on the later models, the lock assembly has a rod/pin that engages into the "L" bracket allowing the rotation to lift the original locking bar. I say original because they did not change to original locking mechanism, just the way the lock interacts with it.

Here is the Front locking system for the Stoners.

so is this the correct lock then?  What you show is indeed the setup I have........

Your image of the outside of the cabinet has the "turnkey" to twist the mechanism up.   I can't see how this would be done with the key and set up on the soda decals site. Is there a seperate part that is not included with the lock that I need to track down?

The lock it's self is the same as the standard Stoner lock, it's the cam on the end thats different. I have never used theres and looking at the picture, i'm not sure if it will work. Kind of looks like it might?

Thanks for the input.  Has anyone used the replacement lock from Soda Decals and knows that it works?   My only thought is where the original lock had the outer mechanism to lift the locking mechanism, i'm not sure looking at the lock how this would accomplish this.   If anyone has used the replacement or has an extra original lock that I could use for parts and just replace the lock itself, please let me know.   Thanks again to all for the advice.......

If this is what you are wanting, I have 2 of them

Also have a couple of old locks, with keys, from that time period (50-60's)

If anybody is interested send me a PM.

That is the correct lock cam for the front locking system on the Stoner. Takes the same lock as the stoners with the side lock but with that cam. These are very hard to find, nice to see someone has two.

This has to be the very last of my Stoner parts.  I forgot I even still had them until I saw the picture.
They are of no use to me, never been a collector but sold dozen plus Stoners, several changers in 2009.

I worked for a small vending company (4 people) and we still had one Stoner in service till 1988-89.

If you want to add them to your collection of parts, I am open to reasonable offer.  Not looking to make a killing, just to see that
someone be able/need them, as they are zero use to me..

Hi BG sent you a PM, I'd be very interested as mentioned in my previous postings, I can't see how the locks available on the Soda Decals site would work with the mechanism as shown by Curtis.   That's the exact set up that I have so I'm hoping this works..........

Thanks,

Jack
