Title: Is this beyond repair?
Post by: Kaleid20 on May 20, 2012, 07:22:24 pm
I removed most of the screws from the lid, however the hinge screws are all stripped. There are another 2-3 around the lid that are also stripped. I didn't want to damage the lid further so I didnt remove those. Looking at the rust now, starting to think the lid is beyond my ability to repair. I wasnt looking to do a full on restore on this cooler, just clean up the interior and the lid as much as possible.

No, but will be spendy. Think about all you can do is cut the embossing out to good metal and fab new lid edges. Weld the embossing back to the new lid frames.
Exact same issue with my WE-6. That is why it will stay yard art for quite awhile.

Ryan,

Bro... I can sand blast them and then 'spot weld' new reinforced
suppots along the rear and hinge areas.

Maybe like Creighton mentioned, new "pans" and cut
the embosment out.

Other than that...that's about all I can do.
