Title: CS-96 Main Door Seal Question
Post by: Blind1968 on May 04, 2012, 11:01:36 am
I just received a new main door seal for my CS-96 from fun-tronics last night am having issues with getting it to seal. It was a preformed seal and appears to be bunching up on the hinge side creating a large gap on the latch side. I have about a 1/2 " gap on the hinged side and 1" to 1-1/4" gap on the latch side.  :darn: This is my first rebuild so I thought this part of the project would be fairly straight forward.... I am sure I am missing something. Anyone have any tips or tricks to get the door to seal?

The corners will bunch up some. Normally after closing the door for a day or two it smashes down. If you have a 1 1/2" gap on the right side your latch rod may be wore. When you latch it shut it sould close tight. I also put a bubble gasket on my breaker seals to give it more sealant. I have attached some pictures for you to look at. You can see that mine also bunched up, and see my bubble gasket on the breaker strips.
Hope this helps..

That's exactly what mine looked like, I also just replaced the latch & rod so may be that's the issue. So I might try putting the old latch back in and see what happens. I like the idea of the second gasket.

Thank you for your help!

Update: Well I found the culprit, it was the tub.  The new draw bar was just barely missing the latch opening but was catching the outside of it. For some reason the tub is about a ¼” out of alignment (bowed out). Looking at the old draw bar someone had actually bent it to make up that ¼”  difference.  I made some temporary adjustments to the tub until I can come up with a more permanent fix. The latch works correctly and the door seals nice and tight now. :happydrinkers:
