Title: Degassing a machine for shipping overseas??? every heard of this?
Post by: SIGNGUY on May 01, 2012, 10:22:48 am
I have recently restored a Vendo 81b for client in Australia... I have all the shipping worked out , but yesterday was asked for a Degassing Certificate..

basically they are asking me to take out the freon I'm assuming?

anyone every dealt with this? and is there any issues with that , or anytyhing the customer will have to do on his end to fill it? (outside of finding someone to do so?)

When I shipped a vendo to Japan, there were no such restrictions other than it being in a treated wood box (for bugs).

Better safe than a huge customs mess. Pull the freon and get the certificate.
I'd just call it a refrigerator. Created 2012.
Looks like a date prior to 1996 may raise a flag.
Hope all goes well !!

Shouldn't have a problem as long as it's not R12.

Declare it a sealed system, no valves, and mark it R134a if you truly rebuilt the system.
If not, you cannot transport/ship systems containing R12...

They ought to be more concerned with all of the hot gas disseminating from their Bureaucracy System... or if you prefer the proper abbreviation, BS

to properly degas a system insert an appropriate amount of Gas-X or Beano into the compressors suction-side service valve inlet, mix thoroughly & avoid giving it dairy foods.  :tounge:
