Title: Latest Vending Machine Post by: davethebirdman on April 13, 2012, 12:43:32 pm Thanks to the Ginger Prince, another member this side of the world, I took possesion of my latest US Vending machine last night. I have been fiddling with it today to try and get it to work. I'm having a little problem with the coins. It takes 25c and 10c. However the coins are having difficulty working their way through the slug rejector. It might just need a bit of a clean. When I pulled the rejector out it had Canadian written on the side. Are the quarters and 10c pieces in Canada a different weight to those ascross the border? Anyone know anything about this machine. It looks to have been mounted on the wall and the cowboy on the front is just something the last owner added. I'm assuming it would have been a mirror.. All complete apart from a couple of weights.. Cheers Dave Title: Re: Latest Vending Machine Post by: tkaz on April 13, 2012, 12:58:10 pm Nice looking machine!
Yes, the Canadian coins are smaller than the US coins, which probably is causing the issue: Canadian Quarter: 4.40g 23.88mm US Quarter: 5.670g 24.26 mm Canadian Dime: 1.75g 18.03mm US Dime: 2.268g 17.91mm Title: Re: Latest Vending Machine Post by: mznb1u on April 13, 2012, 01:29:23 pm Looks like a Rowe to me Dave! Very nice little machine. Let me know if you need any Canadian coins. Being in Michigan we run across them on a regular basis. I would round up some dimes and quarters and send them your way because they will not work in the US machines.

Tim - will be in touch if I cna't figure out how to get it working properly. It's the weight that seems to be the issue. Will check internet for Rowe vendors now.. Dave Title: Re: Latest Vending Machine Post by: Kilroy on April 13, 2012, 01:54:48 pm I knew my V39 was a local ( Michigan)machine because it had an additional warning near the coin slot - Do Not Use Canadian Coins
I'm going to recreate that decal for my next machine . And I too will gladly save my coins for you Dave. The merchants here have a nasty habit of slipping you the coins in change, but Gosh forbid if you try passing Canadian change to them Title: Re: Latest Vending Machine Post by: Seven181 on April 13, 2012, 04:25:35 pm It's a Rowe. I have a six pull. Look almost the same. Nice machine! My coin mech took some work too!

I'm now motivated to get a stand and sort this old girl out. Thanks for the offers of Canadian coins. I've managed to strip the slug rejector down a bit and now it seems to work fine on US coinage. I have a great big bag full of nickles dimes and quarters. Even Mrs B likes this one.. Result. Title: Re: Latest Vending Machine Post by: aristocrat on April 17, 2012, 02:31:43 am hello rayg
i am no expert in slots especially with this model line as have never had one before at hand to work on, however, model is one of a range of models within mills QT lineup, utilising same or similar mechanisms mills created range of different models with differing castings, earliest models being launched in the mid 30's with later models being introduced in the 1940's. models included were the firebird/sweetheart/ hashmark. as with other slot machine history, there is a lot of conflicting information as to dates model type etc. so have tried to keep the info here as broad as possible. the model i have, i have seen described as a chevron or triangle as 1930's and 1940's so havnt the faintest which is correct to be honest, so if any experts here, please feel free to put matters right regards GP Title: Re: Latest Vending Machine Post by: Roadman on April 17, 2012, 06:23:57 am Very nice machine!
