Title: Cavalier CS-96 B Two tone door?
Post by: Blind1968 on April 06, 2012, 03:46:14 pm
I just picked  up a Cavalier CS-96 B, it was all red when I purchased it. I decided when I restore it I would put it back original with the all white door but to my surprise when I removed the door skin and the 50+ year old insulation the door was originally red and White?  Is there any record of any other 96’s having the two tone door? It does not appear to have ever been restored.

There was different options.  I have seen a variety of them done.  I prefer the red solid door compared.to some that are painted all solid white ( main door).

You may ask ( Moon Dawg) Glen he has done many of these in the past and may have some more information.

That machine looks to have been repainted at some point.

Yes, someone at one point in the machine’s past threw a coat of cheap paint over the top of EVERYTHING, wires, lock and glass… it was quite the mess to clean off. The inside of the door and body after the seals and insulation was removed reveled (what I think) is the original color of the door. I say that because as you can see in the pictures the sealant, tape and heating wire all are laid on top of the original red paint.  I plan on staying with the red and white but wanted to insure this was the true color match for this model.

Well I went ahead and had it painted back to the two tone Red and White, it turned out very nice. Now on to the finer details of this build.

Thank you Kilroy, and I do too Slapshot. I was never a big fan of the all white door. Just looked too plain for my taste I guess. Have you ever used any of the embossed water transfer decals or did you have your Coke Cola hand painted?

I had mine handpainted by a pinstriper.  You may call a local sign paint shop and ask for a sign painter they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Paint looks really good!  It looks like it might have been clear coated, if so might want to water sand down the embossed Coke Cola a bit so the paint it has something to bond too. Then another shot of clear.

I have the same machine and I also decided to paint it the same way.  I like the  red door with the white cap better than the original.

Just my .02

Very Nice! Did you have any problems finding all the seal's for the 96?
