Title: Newbie to Stoner candy machines - just want idea of value
Post by: brasskey on April 04, 2012, 11:05:25 pm
I was just looking around ebay at Stoner candy machines and I just wanted to know what the market value is now.  I know just like soda machines prices will probably vary depending on condition and model, but what it something like the auction below worth?  I assume nothing close to what they're asking.

UH Yeah, not even close to what this should be priced at..
There where 3 that I saw last weekend in Chicago for 375.00 and they didn't sell.

That is a nice clean original for sure but the seller is dreaming on the price.  I had the exact same machine--not in as clean of shape and mine had some damage to the metal where the side lock had been removed--and recently sold it on CL for $300.  It was listed for quite a while before I got a buyer but it did eventually sell.  While that machine does have the gum/mint wheel which adds value, it is the later mid-50's styling.  I like the older art-deco Stoners.  BTW--nice popcorn warmer in the mirror.

If that one is as clean as it looks and in complete (with coin mech) working condition (the seller does not make that clear in his ad), it would be worth $300 to $500 because you would have a machine that looks good without any work and you could use it right away.  At that price I would not expect to flip it and make any money though.

My two cents anyway!

It is very valuable due to the fact that it is an original "Theatre version".  (because that is what most eBay and Craigslistings say).

Stoner 180s are worth around $300-400 bucks.  That's it.

"Real" Stoner Theatre versions are worth $1300 - $1800 unrestored. Those models have lights on the front of the machine and are much harder to find.  The standard 180 is fairly common and relatively available.  There is a lot of mis priced antique coin ops on ebay and EB.

Here is a picture of my Theater that was refurbished by the prior owner.  Needs to be restored but it presents well.  The green machine to the right is the art deco style of 180.  I recently sold that for $600.  It will be restored for the new owner by Pat Pixley this summer.

Your Theatre looks very nice, Tim.  Curtis is finishing up restorations of  two Theatres for me...he posted a few photos yesterday of one of the machines. Link is below:

If I were closer, I would consider it. Being in the top of the east isn't a good thing for prices, so $599 seemed pretty good to me!! it looks clean and presentable.
