Title: Steel compressor line? Post by: on July 18, 2004, 06:15:49 pm I've been working on a westinghouse dry chest cooler (WD12)and was ready to hook up the new compressor (Global product), when we were surprised to find that the old line going to the condenser unit was steel and not copper. We're figuring we'll need to braze the old steel line to the copper port on the compressor. We just wanted to double check with some of you more knowledgable fellows that our thinking is O.K.. Thanks, Scott

No problem with brazing. Just be careful, brass brazing rods have a higher melting temperature than copper. You can also use 0%, 5%, or 15% silver solder. With enough flux, this is probably the best way to go. It's what I've used for years. Eric |
