Title: Volvo dealer model Post by: scalebowler on March 16, 2012, 03:15:48 pm Found this model Volvo at an antique store today and after looking at it I was thinking that it might be one of those models that the dealerships would have since it is really detailed for just a plastic car (even has mud flaps at the back that are hinged with the word Volvo on them and has the word Volvo molded into the center of the rims) and it says that it was made in Finland on the bottom but was not sure. What do you guys think? Do you think it is one of those promo model cars or not? Although even if it is not it is still a pretty cool looking model

Title: Re: Volvo dealer model Post by: scalebowler on March 16, 2012, 05:03:36 pm Also kind of a dumb question but what exactly did they use the promo models for at the car dealers? Did they give you one for buying a car or did the dealership just display them or use them to show what different cars look like?
Title: Re: Volvo dealer model Post by: Creighton on March 16, 2012, 09:17:52 pm Can't speak for Volvo but at a Ford dealership if you bought a new car and asked for one it was yours. Still have dad's 65 Mustang and 63 T-Bird dealer promo cars around somewhere.
Sadly the real cars are long gone. The Ford models are kinda a ivory off white color. Cars are common. The box they came in is worth big money. Thrown away most of the time. I kind of wish that they still did that since it is kind of cool to have detailed model cars and especially if it is of a car that you own. I guess todays cars would be kind of boring though but it is still neat. Maybe I will have to go backwards and get a car to match the model! |
