Title: Value of a Restored Westinghouse WH-12t Chest Cooler??
Post by: 66GTO on March 07, 2012, 03:43:04 pm
Anyone have a good idea what a restored Westinghouse WH-12t cooler would be worth? (It's the two-tone chest) I'm beginning to undertake a restoration, and adding up the costs of the work that will be required.  Not entirely sure, but it looks like the costs would be greater than the value when it's done.

Let's say the body/paint would be done professionally, the refrigeration unit would be a modern unit custom built by Global Compressors, and the inner liner was powder coated.  Embossed portions of the chest would be hand painted.  All said and done, what's a range of value for such a machine?  Thanks in advance!

Most likely you will be upside down in value if your looking to restore it and sell it...

but if your looking at keeping it then do what you like.

I'd guess you'll have at least 2500 into it when you get done with all that, and I haven't not see too many sell restored, but have seen them advertised for 2800-3200 but again not many sell unless people have the space for them.

Paint done right $1000
Powdercoating  $300-$400
Hand lettering embossing   $400
restoration of the Condenser deck $700
chrome/re plating  hinges, bezel  bottle opener misc metal $250

Need I say more????  Invest in something else.

Just my .02

if YOU like it, and plan on keeping it...spend the money to do it right.

if you're gonna try and flip it.... you'll be upside down.

I know this story all so well.  I have an itemized spreadsheet from my current WD 10 restoration.  I like the unit and plan to keep it.  I'm at 2,700.00.  I did a lot myself.  I had a signpainter do my lettering, I chromed handles and hinges and Global did my compressor.
I like the WH models and has mentioned they arent to big to enjoy in the house.
