Title: Fsi corporation model cd6 machine not cold Post by: on July 13, 2004, 04:47:48 pm Hi,
I just purchased a used model CD6 Tandem / Set Snack & Soda Vending Machine. The 6 Selection Refrigerated Drink Machine is a model CD6 s/n 126360, manufactured by the FSI Corporation in Des Moines, IA. The snack machine works great. The soda machine works, but is not very cold. I have gone in each day to turn the knob to make it colder and it has gotten a tad better. You can hear the cooling unit hum, no water collecting in the tray. Is there a way to recharge the unit to make it colder? Can I buy a freon kit like for a car? The machine is on location so would like to recharge it there in Canton GA if possible. Thanks, Steve Title: Fsi corporation model cd6 machine not cold Post by: johnieG on July 13, 2004, 06:33:23 pm first you'd have to determine what refrigerant it's using, R12, R134a, etc. (usually on the compressor's nameplate) it will be listed somewhere on the machine, ( example: 12oz R12)

Depending on the age, you may have either 1 or 2 condenser fan motors and one evaporator fan motor. You will need to remove the unit from the machine to do an inspection. This unit is self a contained "suitcase" style setup. DON'T ADD ANY FREON just yet. You need to check all the fan motors, make sure the condenser coil is completely clean, and check your
thermostat. These machines are VERY picky and hard to dial in, charge wise. All the motors are high RPM axiel fan motors like large computer fan motors. If even one is spinning at a slower speed, it will throw the whole system off. Check everything above, clean it, reinstall it, and see if that solves the problem. Just because a machine isn't cooling, that doesn't mean add freon, it could be something different all together! Eric |
