Title: Vendo 81 pics... dirty/clean
Post by: JUNIOR on February 22, 2012, 04:39:48 pm
I just got done cleaning my Vendo 81D.. so here are some before/after pics.
The machine has needed goo-gone, 409, rubbing compound and wax (so far)..
I am very happy with the way in turned out.
:help: still looking for a budget friendly coin-mech & crank handle...

That cleaned up great, congrats!! The original mech and handle are high demand items, resulting in spendy. Wouldn't be hard to fab a bracket to hold a crank handle until a mech was found.  It would look correct.

Looks great!  Using that rubbing compound is so satisfying when you get the paint nice and clean, I did the same to an original V-44 and it looked brand new when it was done.

That looks great ! What's the purpose of rubbing compound? I assume you use it before waxing it.

I used Simple Green and a pressure washer, at a distance, to remove the grime that just spraying and wiping would not remove.  Then I used some Turtle Wax rubbing compound, and some McGuires paint cleaner and some carnuba wax on my ice-cream machine.  It turned out looking brand new.  The rubbing compound really blended the paint shades and evened everything out.

Rubbing compound is a paste with a slight grit that brings out the natural paint by removing a thin amount.  At least that's what happened to me.

Awesome job on the machine.

The paint was dull and had lots of fine scratches so the rubbing compound smoothed out the scratches & paint. Just be careful not to rub thru the paint. Then a coat of wax & it really shines.

Wow,

Maybe we do not need to go to all that trouble restoring them.  That looks great.
