Helps if I post the right jpg. <eep>

I've lived in Michigan all my life, and it's always been "pop", but people ask where I'm originally from when I slip in "Soda"

Im from Denver and that map is correct in my opinion, have family in the south and when you want a pop or soda they ask: "Would you like a coke?" If you answer yes they'll ask: "What kind?"

I am a "pop" guy but since I started collecting I use "soda" every now and then and it does get interesting reactions :Oo: around the enchanted mitten (that would be Michigan)!

When I was a kid it was always referred to as "tonic" in the Boston area.

Still hear some old timers calling it that, but mostly everyone else calls it soda.

Growing up in a Family that owned a Coke Bottling Plant, everything was Coke, and we weren't allowed to say the "P" word.. seriously.. got yelled at for saying it..

Even the word Pop was frowned on and I often heard the term " Soft Drinks" when other brands where mentioned...

I'm with Jim and Tim,  It always been "pop" to me ...I always thought it was short for soda pop. When I traveled around for work and called it pop people looked at me like I was from somewhere in the backwoods  (Metro-Detroit??) I guess it was sort of true

Growing up in Detroit it was always pop.  Moved to Atlanta and you would have thought I was from a different planet when asking for a can of pop.  Quickly transitioned to coke and have been a good southern boy ever since!

We called it soda pop in my family, That' when it was a real treat. Because my mom did not buy soda pop much because it was not a healthy choice, and when she did buy it it was always some off brand like Shasta.

Found it interesting how quickly some of the colors changed.  Look at the St. Louis area, there is an area of "soda" users surrounded by "pop" on the North and "Coke" on the south.  Then in the Northeast, it almost instantly changes over from "soda" to "pop".  Thanks for posting this, really enjoyed looking at it.
