Title: Vendo Coke 81D / No Coin Mech Vending Stack???
Post by: Slapshot42 on February 10, 2012, 11:45:18 pm
All this recent talk of 81's has brought some luck my way.  This machine has been for sale for over 1 year, currently not posted.  I kept the seller's information and have been checking in with them every 2 or 3 months on availability and price.

The price started at $2k, now down to $1,500.00.  The machine has been converted to an electronic mechanism. A little concern with the electronic mechanism being installed their could be some alterations to the vending stack which missing parts could be critical the machine being converted back to the original mechanical style.

Any input, would be greatly appreciated.  I have a few pictures not very detailed but I have e-mailed the seller to request a few more below the vending stack.

Thanks!

Jared,
All-in-all it looks to be a very nice original 81 - too bad it was converted!
Because of the apparent nice paint job - $1500 may not be too bad

Looks pretty nice.  I would give $1500.00 for it.  If it is something you will be keeping then buying a coin mech wouldn't be a deal breaker.  If you want to flip it, that's another story.

I would keep it

It's a nice original and far too nice to paint, so the funds you save on restoration could be applied to purchasing original parts.
You already know you need the coin mech, crank handle and backing plate. In most cases Coke did not remove the door liner so the vending linkage is most likely laying it in there, but check that the "T" shaped linkage is showing through just below the bottle door.
The actuator barrel below the bottle stack has definately been removed but is available. The piece that it drives is not reproduced so that may be your only problem.

Will the crank handle, coin mech. and backing plate work from my Vendo 110.

Do you have any pictures of the linkage or "T" shaped linkage.  Will the linkage and or "T" shaped linkage work out of the Vendo 110.

What does actuator barrel look like?

Thanks Glen.

Large door 110 will satistfy most of the above mentioned parts.

I talked the seller today on the phone for the first time. I explained to him I was a little bit weary of the vending stack with some modifications to the electronic mech.  He stated his brother worked for Coke for 30 years here locally and when it was converted about 30 years ago the part were left in a way that he said it could be put back.

The seller said he had additional parts somewhere.. ( Maybe a coin mech.  :tounge:) He wouldn't be available until next week.  He said that was some negotiating room from 1500 but he would like me to come take a look at before making in offer.  He also said it's taking up space and he would like to move it a long.  They are in older couple and so far it's not advertised.

Hopefully it works out appreciate the input.  I want to offer a fair price and by no means talk somebody out of paying less for my own gain. I know that sounds weird but I'm okay with paying market value.  I know it's not my job to tell them what it's worth.  But I'm far to honest to pay for say... 800 for it.

Good luck.

Maybe you can knock off a couple of hundred.  Still a good deal either way.

I'd just mention to them that orignal coin mechs will run you 300-400 crank handle 100 in repro versions, and other small items will be another 100 bucks and let them come up with another price for you... still 1500 is not bad, for sure would be a good price if complete... but if you don't have to have it shipped and the paint is so nice, your ahead of the game!
Good luck
