Title: In your opinion.....
Post by: vintage-air on January 25, 2012, 06:09:56 pm
What do you guys think is the biggest drawback when you are restoring a soda machine or cooler these days? Is it having the available space for the restoration, waiting on parts, having an understanding wife or people that want these things restored for the price of a candy bar? Seems to me body shops supplies are getting very costly but people want them done cheaper and cheaper. But on the other hand.... I wouldn't pay for what a "Rick's Resto" is commanding these days either.

The problem has always been....people don't know the difference between a restoration and a paint job. They want glossy new paint but can't visualize how their attention will then focus on the parts that were not redone.
To put it another way, they all want a restoration for the price of the paint job.

I totally agree with that.  Top "spit shine it with a dirty tee shirt ( paint job only) vs. a full grade 1 restoration in  which ever bolt comes off is the great differentiator. Any one can get some thing repainted.......

There are good reason as why you can pay $5000 and up to do it right.

Honestly I don't like ricks paint jobs. I seen a few times on the tv where the paint had orange peel all in it. Other times I noticed the paint had been scratched off. I only see it about once or twice a season but you would think for $5,000 you would have it perfect. I don't know maybe I'm just to picky.
