Title: Some of you in the NE remember Hecht's Department Stores...
Post by: collecture on January 20, 2012, 10:27:07 am
I bought this little wooden box at a garage sale the other day for $4.00.
Under the lid was this cloth fabric glued to the top and I could feel something under it. I got it home and ripped the cloth out hoping for silver certificates, gold or something, but it was just a small 4x4 inch mirror. But giving the cloth some support was this postcard for Hecht's Department Store. It was old, brittle and part of it was cut off to fit the box. Some of it broke apart in my quest for gold and I have taped it back together somewhat. It has got a Baltimore, MD 1903 postmark on the backside - I just thought it was kind of cool.

It is very cool.  One of the reasons why we like the hobby is that we find stuff like this.  I just took finish restoring a 1913 NCR cash register and found an old dime lodged in the mechanism.
