Title: Hello from KY! Vendo 165 Questions
Post by: kyjeeper on January 09, 2012, 02:49:11 pm
Hello all! Recently inherited a Vendo V165 that is in rough shape but still runs. Found this site googling for info and hope this will be a great resource for me. I'm an educator by day, and signmaker/designer by night and enjoy restoring/refinishing just about anything!  Anywhoo, here's a few pics of the gal, and what she still had in her:

Anyone have any particular information on this unit, or resources for parts (the main sign is missing, guessing it was backlit since there is a fixture in there) such as the woodgrain, or the clear selector buttons? Someone apparently had a deal with Pepsi at one time using this machine

This model seems to be less common than most v165s (most pics of them look quite a bit different). The tag states Model V165 and MFG#01C1650AB

Does this machine have much value? Would it hurt it to do a "restomod/fantasy" build with it?

Thanks, and hope to be around here a while to soak up the knowledge!

Walk, don't run from it.  It's too large.  If you like square tops, buy as Vendo 56.  It is a great starter machine and not too difficult to restore.  They are also pretty cheap.  I have 4 in my warehouse that I paid around $100 a piece for them,.  Here is a before and after of a Dads Root Beer themed machine I did 10 years ago.

This one was free. I plan on putting it in my workshop, so the size isn't really an issue, unless there are other reasons to avoid it because of the size. It runs and cools well, just needs some makeup. ;)

Neat old pop cans! I have a vendorlator vf-165 (pretty much the same thing) and it is a great little machine.

There isn't much value to the machine, so go ahead and make a fantasy piece out of it. If you ask nicely, Pat Pixley may have some extra woodgrain paper he may be willing to part with. I think someone found a source for the buttons..

Looks like it will become a Dr. Pepper Fantasy unit, as that's mostly what the wife and I drink. Going for the look of the Dublin logo style for it.
