Title: Re: RIP Black Betty...Bam a Lam... (bam ba blam) Post by: globalcompressors on January 08, 2012, 10:14:48 pm and the issue was the 6.0 powerstroke. no longer made by International...it's got design flaws. I've had the truck since new, and with 77k on the clock, it's been in the shop 3 times, twice for turbo issues. Don't get me wrong, this truck was the love of my life and I HATED to sell her. The warranty was up and once again, I began having "cold starting" problems...
Title: Re: RIP Black Betty...Bam a Lam... (bam ba blam) Post by: globalcompressors on January 08, 2012, 10:16:31 pm so.... I found another one, a 7.3 Powerstroke... an International motor. This one is a bit older (1999) but only has 92k on the
clock. It runs and drives like new and I couldn't be happier. I also had a 97' duelly with the 7.3 and I'm still kicking myself for selling that one! :darn: Title: Re: RIP Black Betty...Bam a Lam... (bam ba blam) Post by: globalcompressors on January 08, 2012, 10:17:23 pm still a very nice truck!
Title: Re: RIP Black Betty...Bam a Lam... (bam ba blam) Post by: globalcompressors on January 08, 2012, 10:18:31 pm and great wheels...
Title: Re: RIP Black Betty...Bam a Lam... (bam ba blam) Post by: Pat Pixley on January 08, 2012, 10:21:52 pm A man and his truck these go together like a bat and a baseball or coca cola and a glass bottle or a mouse and a trap.
So is there going to be a hunt for a new truck ? You can't go long with out one, you will have withdraws believe me I know I did it once for three weeks and it was awful. Title: Re: RIP Black Betty...Bam a Lam... (bam ba blam) Post by: Pat Pixley on January 08, 2012, 10:23:47 pm Ok new truck sorry glad you got the new one

(bam ba blam) Post by: Marvin on January 08, 2012, 11:46:16 pm About the only weak link on the 7.3 is the tranny. Buddy of mine has a 6.0. Lots of small issues with it. Seems like removing all the EGR and stuff is the hot setup for them.

Title: Re: RIP Black Betty...Bam a Lam... (bam ba blam) Post by: Jim on January 09, 2012, 08:45:14 am Im looking for a new truck and whats your opinion of the new trucks with the uric acid additive? Im a ford fan but i hear the chevy diesel is better. Im looking for a duelly or 1 ton. just asking! I'm listening too...Eric, that's extremely low mileage for a '99 ! ! ! Can I ask what you paid for it...? Title: Re: RIP Black Betty...Bam a Lam... (bam ba blam) Post by: 90grad on January 09, 2012, 10:09:23 am Eric,
Sorry to hear about Betty, but Goldie certainly looks like a keeper. My wife will own NOTHING but a gold car. Title: Re: RIP Black Betty...Bam a Lam... (bam ba blam) Post by: globalcompressors on January 09, 2012, 10:59:16 am I've been around diesels my whole life. THERES NOTHING COMPLEX ABOUT THEM that anyone
needs to keep fixing...CRAP :darn: I don't know anything about Chevrolet diesel. I would ask questions... what version? how long has it been out? etc. See if they're still using the Allison Transmission...etc... Dodge on the other hand, have been using the same, old, Cummins forever. It works and they DIDN'T FIX IT!!!! The same thing with the gas motors too... Ford.... I am disappointed. The 6.0 and 6.4 twin turbo...complete "fodder". They run the intercooler, oil cooler, and transmission lines through the same plastic piece of crap... one crack and it's over $12 grand for a new motor. The turbo is inferior and undersized. The waste gate sticks, anytime there is corrosion, calcium, rust...triggering the engine light. 3 head bolts per cylinder as opposed to 4 in the 7.3 liter. Under heavy use...blown head gaskets boys and girls... Why should I have to buy something else for the NEW 6.7 diesels? Why do I need a "premix" of sorts, just to pass EPA emissions? Personally, I think its all BS :censored:..... and Ford has lost my new truck business. Jim.... I paid $12,400 for the truck. It was the "little ol' lady" from Pasadina deal! They bought it to tow a gooseneck and used it a few times. She died and he sold everything he had... Clean carfax...(which is WAY COOL) get one EVERYTIME and you can see all maintenence, owners, wrecks, etc. Totally taken care of and it's a 7.3 Liter.... (HEAR THAT FORD??? 7.3 LITER!!!!!) "DOUCHEBAGS" So, that's my review... and out of the ashes...another one has risen! "GOLDIE" Title: Re: RIP Black Betty...Bam a Lam... (bam ba blam) Post by: tkaz on January 09, 2012, 12:16:56 pm Ford really struggled with their engines in the mid-2000's, the 5.4l is a mess with the spark plug issues that they have. I hope they fired everyone in the engine shops and started new...especially since I bought an 09 with the 'new' 5.4 in it. I'm hoping all the issues don't start manifesting in a couple of years.
Title: Re: RIP Black Betty...Bam a Lam... (bam ba blam) Post by: globalcompressors on January 09, 2012, 05:47:43 pm Me too Tkaz.
The only thing I've heard about the new Tritons, are the cam sensors...sometimes they can start making some noise. Title: Re: RIP Black Betty...Bam a Lam... (bam ba blam) Post by: BONOVOX on January 09, 2012, 06:21:39 pm Video AND music worked fine for me
Sorry to hear the bad news  Title: Re: RIP Black Betty...Bam a Lam... (bam ba blam) Post by: collecture on January 09, 2012, 07:20:48 pm Video AND music worked fine for me I think that is because you are in Canada. It says it is blocked in our country for some copyright issue. Title: Re: RIP Black Betty...Bam a Lam... (bam ba blam) Post by: Jim on January 09, 2012, 07:52:58 pm Quote I paid $12,400 for the truck. That's the best DEAL of the new year ! ! !Title: Re: RIP Black Betty...Bam a Lam... (bam ba blam) Post by: Creighton on January 09, 2012, 07:55:08 pm Dang, sorry for the loss. Did you get to keep the plate's? New truck looks nice.
Sad to read FORD can't make a truck. Your yellow beast did ok, right? 2013 Boss is very tempting. Creighton Title: Re: RIP Black Betty...Bam a Lam... (bam ba blam) Post by: globalcompressors on January 09, 2012, 09:42:27 pm Awww Creighton...it's ok. The economy just killed me over the last few years. I had to sell everything, but you know what?....it's just stuff. I survived and I'm still in business...that's what's important!
Thanks Jim...I thought I did ok too. Hmmmm....3 or 4 Vendo 81's or..... |
