Title: Screws, bolts, nuts, washers....ahh Post by: tkaz on December 19, 2011, 02:49:20 pm Finally getting to reassembly my VF-90, what a process! Just got done with mocking everything up and cataloging all of the bolts, nuts, screws, washers, and whatever else I can think of... :darn: Glad I took two weeks off for Christmas!
I don't think there's a screw kit for this machine, so where are you guys going to get all of the hardware? I'm going to try the big box stores first, then maybe try some of the specialty stores after that. I'll get some photos when I get a chance, this was my first machine, had it for close to 6 years now, so putting everything back is quite an adventure...good thing I took a ton of photos! Title: Re: Screws, bolts, nuts, washers....ahh Post by: SIGNGUY on December 19, 2011, 03:43:18 pm I've had more luck finding odd size screws at the smaller Hardware Hank or Ace Hardward type of stores... Menards and Home Depot only sell the large bubble pack of standard sizes around me...

Trying to catalog all the screws on my Westy WB-60 was a nightmare. Westinghouse manuals never ID'd their fasterers in thread/size terms (i.e. 6-32x3/8"), but simply labeled it (i.e. Part # Y-1234 - Breaker Strip Screw - 18 qty.) I had all the original screws zinc plated. A lot of the screws types were just not available anymore like some of the various SEMS screws.
I'm like John, I have an Ace Hardware that I usually go to for smaller quantities etc. - they just have it set up better IMO. McMaster-Carr for larger quantities.... Title: Re: Screws, bolts, nuts, washers....ahh Post by: MoonDawg on December 19, 2011, 04:34:13 pm You can start off with a box of 100 # 8X1/2" pan head screws.
10 #10X1/2" panhead screws Probably 20 #8-32 panhead machine screws and 10 #10-32 panhead machine screws plus a few nuts for each of these. This should give you 90% of what you will need, keep a list and get all the rest later. They have a much larger selection of specialty hardware items.

All the machines I work on have imperial fittings. Not an Ace store for about 5,000 miles.. Title: Re: Screws, bolts, nuts, washers....ahh Post by: Pat Pixley on December 23, 2011, 11:33:55 am I hit my True Value Hardware up and I buy by the box it alot easier and the True Valve will order the odd stuff for me also. For the Chrome Screws , Nuts & Washers I like the Ace they have a better selection. I will only us the big box stores if I have to .
