Title: JACOBS 26
Post by: BONOVOX on December 14, 2011, 06:50:02 pm
Hi all!
Well, I purchased my first machine off of Ebay, (still wondring if I did the right thing lol) it's a Jacobs 26.
I've been thinking of getting one for a while now, and only read about them from what others have said about them on here.
This one came up for sale, and the fact that it's close to me (4hrs away, and that's as close as they come lol) I decided that I would pick it up.
Now, until I see it in person, Im not sure what I want to do with it.  I want to restore it myself, but only if it needs to be done, otherwise, I would like to simply clean it up (as im sure it never has been cleaned) and see what she looks like.

From what I see, it all seems to be there.
What do you all think?
Oh, I paid $ 1,025 for it, and Im gonna pick it up just after Christmas.

I would NOT restore that one! I'm sure it will clean up just fine. Be sure to clear that drain as it is plugged up and caused the mess inside. The cabinet looks straight, but the backs are usually caved in from laying them down to move them. The paint will buff out so you keep the original graphics.
Like they say "it's only original once". Be sure and post pic's after cleaning. Nice machine!  :happydrinkers:

From the pictures it looks great, you just lose a lot of that vintage look once you re-paint.

Great original.  Restore it if you want to.  I have restored Coke machine that looked very nice as originals.  It just depends on your individual tastes.  My wife often disagrees when a sand blast and restore a "nice original" machine.  I just like everything to look "brand new"

You have one or two nice originals already , I think... this one too could be kept original I'd guess...

but only you will know once you start on it.. but I'd try to keep her original.. little buffing and polishing and cleaning up the inside.. nice machine and fair price too.
