Title: New project - Hotpoint Fridge Post by: tkaz on December 11, 2011, 01:40:12 pm I had a friend email me this week and his father-in-law was getting rid of his old Hotpoint fridge. I wasn't really looking for a project, but sometimes they just fall in your lap and can't say no! Plus, he only wanted $100 for it. Everything works great on it, and from the photos it looks pretty clean. I'm going to bring it down to NC for a paint job, I'm thinking of 57 Chevy Teal Blue, with a white top.
Anybody have any experience with these? Seems pretty straightforward to me. I'll post some photos of the resto as I go. Title: Re: New project - Hotpoint Fridge Post by: scalebowler on December 12, 2011, 02:17:16 pm That is a pretty awesome fridge!

Title: Re: New project - Hotpoint Fridge Post by: tkaz on August 26, 2014, 08:11:23 pm Well it's been a few years since I picked up this Hotpoint fridge, but finally getting to the good part, reassembly. My father-in-law painted it, ended up going with 57 Chevy Seafoam Green and India Ivory on the top. The colors pop in person, pretty excited to get it back in my garage and all the parts back on it.

I've received several requests to restore a few of these, but have been leary of trying to get one apart? find parts? would be interested in what you did for the restoration? is it just a paint job, or did you take it all apart and how did that go? did you find a supplier for parts? I know.. lots of questions but it looks so awesome, I'd love to be able to start working on them... Title: Re: New project - Hotpoint Fridge Post by: tkaz on August 27, 2014, 09:40:59 am Thanks everyone, excited to get it all back together.
I found it pretty difficult to pull apart, I ended up snapping one of the breaker strips with the brute force method, before I figured out how they actually came out. I was able to fiberglass it back together, not sure I could have found the parts for that. Mostly just a paint job, the interior was in immaculate condition, just needed a good cleaning and I Flitz'd the chrome parts. I pulled the door completely apart which was pretty straight-forward and just masked off the rest of the interior. Parts are hard to come by, there are suppliers of the door gasket but that's about it. I'd say if you are going to do a resto, make sure you start with a very good condition original that's complete. Not sure about the other models, this one has breaker strips with bends and curves, which would be very tough to reproduce. Title: Re: New project - Hotpoint Fridge Post by: tkaz on September 14, 2014, 03:19:53 pm Finally got it back from my FIL's shop, got most of the outside chrome and emblems back on it, I'm beyond happy with how everything came out.
Just need to get the interior back together and fire it up. This one's going to be a keeper, the wife's trying to find a spot in the house for it, so I think we did a good job! Title: Re: New project - Hotpoint Fridge Post by: ld26 on September 14, 2014, 06:28:57 pm Looks great! So cool
Title: Re: New project - Hotpoint Fridge Post by: tkaz on September 26, 2014, 03:57:43 pm Here's a couple more shots of the interior now that I have it all back together. It was a pain to get it all apart when I first got it, having no clue how all the trim was held in and the right method to getting it all out. I ended up cracking one of the breaker strips on the inside, but luckily a fiberglass patch and some paint made it all work.
Now it's time to figure out where it goes in the house! :drinking: Title: Re: New project - Hotpoint Fridge Post by: johnieG on September 26, 2014, 07:51:25 pm Nice, all you need now is a set of aluminum ice cube trays!
